24 Tons of Box Vans

Postby Serjt-Dave » Sun Feb 21, 2021 5:15 pm

Hi All, just finished off last years Christmas project a couple of BR 12 ton Vans. They are Parkside bodies on Rumney chassis. Great fun to build though I found the instructions a bit vague and disjointed in places. I was very impressed that once built they run without any need of adjustment. I was going to add some poster/labels to the van sides on one of them but as my printer has stopped working I'll have to add them later. They are both now in service making my one only freight train slightly longer.

Keep Safe

Very well-observed weathering job.

Thirded... That look of sun and rain worn red oxide paint is really rather lovely.

Perfectly understated, perfectly done.

Cheers

Gosh guys I'm blushing. Thanks very much for your kind comments. I thought I screwed the weathering up. When I first start the weathering process I use the air brush to apply the overall grime colours to tone down the fresh paint. Track grime/dirt for the underframe and roof dirt etc for the body. But instead of picking up the roof dirt I picked up dirty black and started to spray that. This gave the van bodies a bit of a geryish hue. I didn't want to then apply the roof dirt and risk making the overall body too dark. So I tried to counter act the grey hue with weathering powders applied in the worst areas. I'm happy with the end result anyway.

Keep Safe
