VIRTUAL SCALEFORUM & SCALEFOUR NORTH

Postby dcockling » Sun Aug 09, 2020 7:53 pm

As you are all no doubt aware, due to the Corona virus pandemic, all of our regular exhibitions have had to be cancelled this year. We have therefore been working to put together a one-off special Virtual Scaleforum with a flavour of Scalefour North for you.

This ‘event’ will take place on Saturday 26th September on a screen near you, running, as the actual show would have, from 10:30 am to 5:30pm although the vast majority of the content will continue to be available to view after the event.

There will be a main show page at https://www.scaleforum.org (please note the slightly different URL from usual) which will have full details of all of the day’s features, but we will also link to this from the Society’s main website and the Society forum and look to link and share the event through our Social media pages and feeds.

Unfortunately, due to the problems caused by the lockdown not everyone who has been asked to participate has been able to do so, but there will be videos for you to watch of many of the layouts that would have been at this year’s exhibitions had they taken place. Additionally, several home-based or work-in-progress layouts will be featured which are not normally available for exhibitions.

There will also be a number of demonstrations by members of the Devon Riviera Area Group and others, as well as some lectures on subjects of interest and we are also hoping to have input from some of our regular traders.

It is intended that members of the Committee will be available for you to chat with during the day at the Virtual Society Stand and that as many as possible of our demonstrators and layout owners will be available at particular times during the day to respond directly to your questions via the forum.

There will be no entry fee and content will be available to both members and non-members.

There is still much to do and it is not possible at this point to provide a complete list of participants, and features, but what we have so far, or expect to have, is listed below and up to date information on content and timing will be provided on the forum, on the website, on Facebook and Twitter throughout August and September.

We would also welcome further input from our members. We are hoping to create a Virtual Showcase and we would ask members to send in pictures of any of their models which they would like to include to: showcase@scalefour.org Please don’t be shy!

Additionally, if any members already have any video content on their own channels that they would like us to link to from the show page, please let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

Any questions or queries regarding the virtual event as well as details of your own content that we could link to can be sent to virtual@scalefour.org or posted on this dedicated forum page and we will do our best to answer them.

Wow fantastic news, Danny. On this side of the Earth (Australia) it will start around 7.30PM and end about 2am! This is great here was I feeling a little down due to our CoVictoria... Lockdown again (yes we have the Spice girls joke... it would be great but its been spoiled by Victoria) . Could be rather interesting as there will be a number of Australian Members getting together....with out having to cross a border and isolate for 14 days! :D

I'm putting it in the diary now!

Great news, and a much shorter journey to get there. I'll dig out the red name badge that I was given last year.

Thanks and best wishes to all concerned.

It should be possible. It is amazing what one can do these days. I can show you the track that I have been building while in lockdown and you can show me the locomotives that you had been planning to run on it.

If you do have a Melbourne Finescale Group meeting will you allow previous visitors to join in and say hello?

Yes, of course, but timing might be a problem. If we have our finscale meeting before Scaleforum starts, which would be convenient for us antipodeans, it would be alarmingly early in the morning for our friends in the U.K. Doug and I will give it some thought while procrastianting on locomotive and layout building.

Thanks Steve, the first slot will be 19:30 (Melbourne time)! I think the Rota said the membership secretary would be on the final slot (2:30AM Sunday Melbourne time).

What a great and inspired idea. Having not missed a Scaleforum since 1983, my run can now continue. Hopefully there will be a way of making most of the material available after the event. Looking forward to it.

With just two weeks to go, preparations are nearing completion and the list below has been updated with the latest information on the show content, participants, and features.

There is a special Scaleforum website, although at the moment only the main page is live: http://www.scaleforum.org
All the content will be accessible from there but it will also be linked to from the Society's main website, the forum, our Facebook page and Twitter feed.

We have received lots of images from our members for the Virtual Showcase but if you would still like to take part you can send pictures of any of your models which you would like to include to: showcase@scalefour.org.

There are now nearly four and three quarter hours of video content of layouts that will be released for viewing on the day, but don't worry about getting square eyes as it will all continue to be available after the show.

Although in a few instances we are linking to content that already exists, the vast majority of video, slideshow and other content is brand new and has been written, filmed, edited and made available exclusively for Scaleforum 2020 and we'd like to thank all of our contributors for their work in filming their layouts and producing their videos, demonstrations and talks, under what for many have been very difficult circumstances. Without their efforts there would be no virtual exhibition.

Expressing my lack of IT knowledge! What does one have to do to get a 'live chat' facility... if I understand from forgoing paragraphs that individuals can have live chats with demonstraters etc? :?:
