Well I got inspired at the show this year to work on my Yorkshire DE2. As of today it's running nicely.
Ordsall Road (BR(E)), Forge Mill Sidings (BR(M)), Kirkcliffe Coking Plant (BR(E)), Swanage (BR (S)) and Heaby (LMS/MR). Acquired Thorneywood (GNR). Still trying to "Keep the Balance".

DEFine are pleased to announce that we will be holding our third DEFine Modellers Day on Saturday the 12th of January 2019. The venue is as previous years, Risley Village Hall, Risley, Derbyshire, DE72 3SU (beside the church).

Planning is well underway for the event and the line up of attendees so far is as follows.

Layouts

Sutton St-Annes (2mm)

Ashton Street (OO)

Brunswick Yard (P4)

Caradon Junction (OO)

Minories (P4)

Shelfie 2 (OO)

Demonstrations

On-Track Plant – Alex Hall

Working on wagons – Phil Eames

Weathering stock – Dave Roome

Stock display for Glasgow Queen St in EM – Andy Clayton

Building a “plank” – Mike Whitchurch

As in previous events, there will be no traders present. There is lots of parking and refreshments will be available on the day. Doors open at 10am and close at 4pm.

The venue can be reached within 5 mins off J25 of the M1. Take exit (Bostocks Lane) heading for Risley and then left at the lights on to A5010. The Village Hall will be signposted about half a mile along on the right hand side.

We are also pleased to announce that admission is being maintained at only £3 as this is a not for profit event.

We will keep the blog updated with any more news and reminders nearer the date. This looks like it could be our biggest show yet so we hope you can come along and enjoy the day. Pictures and coverage of previous events can be found in the blog archive. https://definemodellers.wordpress.com/

Thanks

An excellent show yesterday with some very good layouts on display together with informative demonstrations. An encouraging point for me was that two of the layouts had been built by youngish people (under 30) showing that the skills, expertise and determination to do high quality modelling are not being lost. Sutton St-Annes (N gauge) showed repainted stock to get the liveries needed with the quality as good as anything done in 4mm scale. Howard Bolton's Miniories was on display and attracted visitors from Manchester and Barnsley who had come just to see it. Only two layouts were built to P4 standards but that does not matter - it was the excellent standard of model making that is important.

Apart from the modelling side it was also a good social event which is important especially when people are working in isolation

The organisers are to be congratulated for putting on such a successful event.

I agree fully with Terry. It was an excellent day out and the distances some people had come was remarkable. (Spain anyone?).

If you missed our event yesterday, check out this video https://youtu.be/-U4Ug3HkSYw

Thanks to to all the Scalefour members who attended our DEFine Modellers Day yesterday and helped to make it a success. I think we had some great layouts as the video shows and the atmosphere was in keeping with previous years of being very informal and relaxed. Many people turned up at or just after opening at 10am and stayed for the whole day which must mean they were enjoying the show. The organising team also had a great day and we appreciate the support we got from the exhibitors who gave up their time to entertain our guests. There were a few sore throats at the end of the day, either from the amount of chatting that was done or the amount of tea and coffee that was drunk. Our social zone in the centre of the hall with free mags to take away always seemed busy with people chatting and at one point all the seats were full!
Given we covered our costs for the day (we don't run it for profit) we will be considering DEFine Modellers Day 4 for 2020, as we have already had expressions of interest from exhibitors wanting to attend.

Thanks again

The DEFine Team
