Important announcement.

Direct supply of Lanarkshire Models items direct to North America has been discontinued. See this thread for more details:

viewtopic.php?f=37&t=5020

Some distributors are mentioned on that thread, if you are looking to buy from the US.

Hi all, it's come to my notice that some people are not seeing the latest Lanarkshire Models webpage, this is possibly due to Google or Google Chrome not now automatically searching for the latest version of a webpage or that people are using an old favourite's link. Can I suggest cleaning out the cache or history and typing in the address http://www.lanarkshiremodels.com this should bring up the latest home page which should have a big yellow information panel on it. A number of new items were added at that time.

I've even had someone asking when bufferstops BS18 and BS19 would be available, these were out in April!

The new GNR type C bufferstop (BS21) should be available very soon as the masters are nearly done, just a few more bolts to fit..... GCR bufferstops next.

Edit to correct web address. Doh!

Pleased to announce, at last, our latest bufferstop, BS21 Great Northern Railway Type 'C' is available to purchase on the website.

On these bufferstops the uprights have no joggle in them so the diagonals splay out to meet them, most odd.

As far as the website is concerned we've now added a date on the top right corner of the home page so you can check you have the latest version as it appears that some search engines are not updating the links. It seems that the home page updates okay but if one goes to say 'Google' to search for a certain item the link is old and an old version of the website is opened (apparently a common problem with Google).

If you use a favourites link please re-new your link to be sure of finding the latest version by clicking on www.lanarkshiremodels.com and saving to favourites.

Any problems please tell me know.

All the best,

Dave Franks.

Have updated the website today to include the latest GNR bufferstop BS22 and fix a couple of bad links. The date on the home page would now be January 2017 so if you've got an older version from your favourites link please update your history and use the link at the bottom of this message or Google for Lanarkshire Models and Supplies.

BS22 GNR Type 'C' bufferstop with timber beam.

Next :- GER bufferstops.

All the best,

Hi all, just a quick notice to say we will have stocks of CSB wire for sale at Scalefour North, this wire is the result of much searching through engineering suppliers and we have been supplying it in our CSB sprung tender chassis for a number of years. We will now be stocking for sale 10,11,12,13,and 14 thou rust resistant spring steel wire and as I have used these sizes myself in a number of locos from small 0-6-0 tanks to 8Fs I know it works, (see the CLAG CSB gallery).
Also to be released at S4N will be the much asked for BR CCT buffer, if I could post a picture I would.

If I could also comment on the debate going on regarding an 'Appreciation of' - the various suspensions, Allan, Alan and Julian are quite right regarding the running qualities of the late Mike Gilgannon's stock, it was a joy to behold and as alluded to by Julian the thread is so much 'da ja vue' as on the 'Modellers United' forum the same arguments were postulated by the same person from over the water and the same un-necessary questioning of everything everyone else wrote including myself really pixxed everyone off. Talking to P4 workers at Glasgow confirmed what is thought about how this latest thread is going....
If it works for you then carry on with how you do it is my motto these days.

Hi all, we have had a number of emails asking about the new 4mm BR CCT buffer, yes BC05 is for the 4 wheel BR design CCT.
As people have been asking we have decided to add it to the website now, and if I need to do more for Scalefour North then I'll just have to...
Another new buffer BC04, is the LMS coach buffer with fabricated head as fitted to earlier LMS coaches and as replacements on some pre-group coaches.

Also added tonight are the five gauges of steel spring wire for CSB suspensions (10, 11, 12, 13, 14 gauge). This wire has been supplied with our Tender chassis kits for the last few years and I've used it myself on various locos and tenders and can thoroughly recommend it. It is a high quality, rust resistant steel spring wire and is nice to work with, supplied in a 500mm coil but as soon as the pack is opened it springs out, not quite straight but damn near so watch your eyes!!!!.

The website now has a date stamp on the home page so one can check if you've got the latest version as some customers are still using an old version.

Looking forward to Scalefour North but I'm thinking I won't have finished the GER bufferstops as I had hoped.

All the best,

Dave Franks

Well the topic is there to comment on. My contribution is to try and help P4 people stop having trackholding issues completely. Judging by the number of topics revisiting such issues over and over elsewhere in this forum, those are still very common here.

BTW, what's the Modellers United Forum and what's it's mission?

Andy,

On my screen anyway, there's a link to a number of forums (fora?) at the bottom of the screen including Modelers United.

Thanks,

I did check that link, but was still in the dark as to its intended purpose/audience.

In general, I don't tend to take advertising based (or worse monetizing) forums too seriously.

I think MU might have been started by someone who had become disenchanted with RMweb.

MU was started by about a dozen people that had become disenchanted with rmweb (I was one originally) dunno how many people run it now though. It was hoped that it would be a place for modellers who do more than open boxes and can take or give feedback without having a tantrum.

I've had a few emails asking about our CSB wire, just to clarify the size confusion, (and I will change the website accordingly), the wire sizes are in thousands of an inch, ('Gauge' is guitar speak) Very sorry for the confusion there being at least a dozen wire gauge tables around the world, all different. When I ordered samples I measured them in thou and metric so I knew what I was getting, it does have the actual metric size on the drum and is manufactured to a British Standard for spring steel wire.
Also from an email question, no it isn't just guitar string, ( I was using the guitar string notation which is often mentioned i.e. 10 gauge is 10thou). It is described as rust resistant, (I had some in neat liquid flux until the flux evaporated, the wire turned crusty black which scrapped off but it didn't seem to show rust).
I've been packaging the heavier wire and just to say that when the wire is off the drum it sits flat and at about a diameter of 25-30'' so not straight but when pulled through the fingers a few times it is easily straightened for use
Cutting the wire, DON'T use your best Xurons. Grip with pliers and bend the wire sharply back and forth till it fractures and comes apart.

All the best,

Dave Franks.

Hi all, just here to say that the latest bufferstop kit is available on the Lanarkshire Models website.
BS23 is a Great Eastern Railway railbuilt bufferstop and comes with the original style timber bufferbeam with the rounded ends and the later rail beam.
The stops are still at £5.95 or £27.50 for a box of five.

Also newly available is an LNER 1'81/2'' 2 rib wagon buffer for fitted wagons and as an alternative for the new Parkside LNER TOAD E guardsvan.

Please check you have the latest webpage with the date 'June 17' on the Home page as it appears some are still using an older webpage link and may be missing out on new items.

As a supplier to Parkside Dundas and having known about the intended retirement plans for the PD empire for a wee while now but sworn to secrecy I would like to wish the guys all the best for the future and thank them for having faith in Lanarkshire Models & Supplies. When we started the casting of wagon buffers back in June 2010, they took the then twelve types of buffers onto their trade stand at shows and eventually their website, LMS have grown somewhat since then and although PD don't stock all our products they sometimes sold more than us in a month, thanks guys.

Peco are not taking the LMS range of cast components and Richard, Andrew and I have agreed that LMS are well known enough now and could stand alone with the website and specialist show presence.

As far as my personal modelling is concerned, Parkside wagon kits have been the mainstay of the wagon stock on my own layout for the past thirty years with many more waiting to be built, where would the BR period modeller be without them.

So from the end of July LMS products will only be available from the LMS website or specialist exhibitions like Scalefour North or the EMGS EXPO North and maybe the odd other shows we keep being invited to.

Once again Andrew and Richard, all the best and thanks.

New buffer added to the website tonight, Great Northern Railway standard loco buffer.
Most GNR locos had these buffers and many also had a wooden packer to lengthen them for screw couplings, a nice brass washer is supplied to represent the packer.

Well the new Midland 'heavy' bufferstop BS24 was released at the 'WorkshopWise' event at the weekend and is now on the website for purchasing.

Not many were sold compared to NER ones but hey it is Midland.

LMS products are now only available from the LMS website.
Website should say October 2017, if not please clear cache and use the address below to get the latest version.

NEW BUFFERS AVAILABLE NOW.....

Due to an impassioned plea we have done some more modern OLEO buffers. Similar to our 2'0'(and a bit) long BP05 we now have BP07 and BP08 the first with a 13'' head and the second with a 16'' head. These are available now but, after a big problem with our computer we are now working with W10 on a new machine and haven't yet managed to upload the new products to the website... :(

If you do want these items please order BP05 and let us know by email what you actually want, same prices etc.

Well, we've now been able to up-date the website after having to download the later version of the website package as well as learning Windows 10 (Argh). This has taken quite a bit of work to do and it's not finished yet but at least the new Pneumatic buffers BP07 and BP08 are on there now.

Work is also progressing on the new BR Std tender chassis with mock-ups being thrashed round the Wharfeside layout including reversing 40 wagons through various point formations, three CSB chassis'd tenders coupled together and all working perfectly, I'm a happy boy... The chassis are for the two wheelbases of the BR1 and BR2 tenders, I'm checking out 78xxx class BR3 tender though this has a more Ivatt design of brake gear.

I had intended increasing a few prices in April so unfortunately they are on the website now. Changes too with the postage due to the Royal Mail price increases in March plus the increases in the envelopes and packaging.

I'm going through the website checking all the links and photos so if you spot any wrong uns please let me know. ;)

Yes please :thumb
That would be an ecumenical matter.

The new 4mm scale Great Central Railway bufferstop kit is now up on the website:- http://www.lanarkshiremodels.com/lanark ... te_204.htm

Released at EXPO EM Autumn show in Manchester last weekend it was well received by those in the know of all things GC including members of the GC society.

Available singly at £5.95 or in boxes of five for £27.50.

Quite a few were sold but I can easily make more....

Update on the BR tender chassis, the test etches for the BR1 and BR2 chassis are being built up and tested, a couple of small changes then we'll go for production.
At EXPO EM a couple of people asked about the BR3 tender chassis for the 78000 class, is anyone else interested? The BR3 chassis is almost the same as the Ivatt chassis but with smaller wheels which does mean a few alterations to the brakegear and the ride height but if there is enough interest I will look at it.

Hmmm, consider this post an expression of interest being registered for a BR3 chassis - err for four of them to be accurate.

Thanks guys, I'll look at it but I will need to get detail pics to make sure as the BR2 has simplified brake pull rods compared to the Ivatts so was the BR3 the same.
