Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
Progress on the 4mm Furness E1 is going well, if not a little slowly. Trying more chassis experiments too, currently modifying one of my fixed axle prints to accept AG hornblocks. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.
A loco arrived today albeit in 1:148 scale. Thought I'd show you anyway. Considering its size the quality is good. Looking forward to getting it detailed and painted up. Will be willing to scale down to 1:152 if there is interest. Currently need to get one of the RTR chassis fitted.
FXD print of the SCC Extended Tanks E2, only this time scaled to fit British N Gauge, that being 1:148 scale. Next is to test fit the chassis and get that painted and detailed up.

Is that the whole AG hornblock including guides, or just the block running in WSF guides? I've drawn WSF guides but the centring ridge was too thin to be printed. Maybe a guide with a brass insert would work?

The experiments with the AG hornblocks are for one of my fixed axle P4 chassis for the E2. It is or all the hornblock.
I have built a lot of these chassis. Mostly as fixed axle, some with a little downward give and one as a different system all together, what I now call MBS. I find all work yet as expected a bit of 'proper' compo or springing would improve things. I would like to try these designs milled or laser cut but the prices are crazy so currently waiting and trying this out for now.
What I have done is what we do with fixed etched chassis. Simply cut the dummy hornblocks out and smoothed the sides. I will be buying Poppy's axle jig before I try to glue them in though. As the frames are 2mm's thick and AG hornblocks due to the top screw require them being fitted with little surface the join won't be good so I'll have to put some blocks on the inside to provide more 'grab.'
If the system works out I'll make a post about it and then the MBS design will have another application it could be used for.
Before launching SCC I tried a form of CSB to myself. Fulcrum points were not correct but Hornblocks in WSF do not work. FUD ones are marginally better but once you have filed and smoothed them enough to freely slide they then twist too much. Basically the chassis needs to have brass or whatever in those areas as is traditional.
Many of you may say "could have told you that ages ago" but I like to confirm things myself.

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
Major progress report. Still needs work, will need the tender doing too but I plan to finish and release the body first, then chassis' then tender once done.
Let me know what you think, suggestions etc.
I have more variation fittings than shown here but bunging them all in the kit would significantly increase the price, yet at the same time having them all individual might too. Suggestions please!
Oh yeah, I brought a Robox Dual 3D printer, finally took plunge. So far having a good play, future post though.

Gavin,
Have you ever considered an etched chassis to go with the printed body? It would give the best of both worlds with a sturdy base and detailed superstructure. Just a thought prompted by some of the conversation above.
Cheers,
David

Aye indeed.
Etched chassis are an area I want and likely need to break in to but for various reasons I'm just not ready yet. It's a whole new discipline entirely.
What I really want is to mill them, but not as fixed axles. I contacted Protolabs but the asking prices for the file uploads were perfectly unworkable.

Furness E1 & Cambrian SPC Released at last. Made more progress today than I have in the last few months now I've made a change in life.
Alternative cabs, safety valves, splashers, chimneys etc also are available. These can be broken down into separate uploads too if anyone is interested rather than the sets, they are cheaper to bundle though.
The chassis are also up in the 3 gauges. The tender hasn't been started yet but will be.

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
As well as the 4mm FUD release of the FR E1 & Cambrian SPC and as well as releasing the splasher, safety valve, chimney, cab sets etc to complete the versions; yestarday and today there have been more developments.
The 5 different splasher and cab types are also now available as separate choices, this is so you can target more what you want and need rather than waste if you only want a specific combination.
Furthermore, another version of the loco has been added, this time both in FUD and WSF labelled as 'BASIC' for the simple reason it is a more basic kit. All the optional choices have been pulled off ready for individual components (as described above) to be added. This body is also a little different inside the cab because the splashers have been completely removed and again these are available as separate items. However, they are made available in 00, EM & P4 so now you don't have to bear with over the top large cab splashers if not modelling in 00. The only quibble is you will need to file down the backhead controls at the sides if modelling in EM or P4 to accommodate the change, as a result another version of the controls has been uploaded too.
Here is the FR E1 & Cambrian SPC that was previously shown. It is in one version so you'll have what's needed for this version. However for the others you'll need to buy the relevant choices.

https://www.shapeways.com/product/KE9XT ... d=63060993
https://www.shapeways.com/product/NPY4R ... d=63061017
Here is the P4 splashers for inside the cab of the BASIC versions only. Again, 00 and EM ones also there.

If there is any desire for individual chimneys and safety valves then they can be done too yet shapeways add a standard file price to every upload which is why it is often cheaper to offer them in packs, especially if sprued.

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
The Furness J1 & Furness E1 / Cambrian SPC 'Albion' is now also up as a 7mm rescale - doubt that would interest ScaleFOUR lads though.
Also I've dropped the prices on some SCC WSF items. As expensive as Shapeways often is any lower and I'd literally be giving them away!
Progress on things generally is going good. I pulled out of full time work for a bit as some of you know to give this and other things in life a lot more time. Full time work is just so draining of time and energy. Still, I'll likely in the future have to plug back in.

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
I have switched to Imgur for pictures. Old ones will have to be history. Too much faffing to sort out and if Imgur goes pop then it goes pop, while I'm out of work I'm not buying web space yet anyway. For now though...
Furness E1 & Cambrian SPC Tender update.
The brake pads are different as I didn't pose a particular type for the pictures but never mind. 2 out of 3 are shown.
I'm not going to model all of the brake gear as a lot seems impossible to fully see in the photographs and drawings although I have figured out how most of it works by comparing everything.
Brass or nickel silver rod will be better than a thin 3D print that might fail and get an order rejected.
The rivets are not modelled yet, these are just holes showing the green inner walls. More to add along the bottom and rear yet.
Notable further improvements are shamfered axle boxes, a round beaded lip on the tender top and the bolt on housing for the shaft in the steps etc.
I gave the Cambrian and Furness ones a slightly different size and position based on photographs but it is guess work due to again more conflicting variations.
I think it captures the correct look though.
Top picture is Furness bottom Cambrian, they will share the same base chassis.
That's where we are so far.
Any critiques, suggestions and questions etc all welcome. Just after an accurate model at the end of the day.

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
The Cambrian 'Albion' Small Passenger Class and Furness E1 4 wheeled tenders are now available with the 4 chassis options, 00, EM & P4 & 7mm 0 Gauge. Details in the product descriptions. Very happy with how these have turned out.
The brake handle and railings will be separate items due to them being so thin, this way it reduces a print fail risk.

Furness E1 Tender Body https://www.shapeways.com/product/K8YLNRZ65/7mm-furness-e1-tender
Both tenders at a glance are very similar but there are notable differences.
The chassis are common to both bodies, other than the brake pads I have decided
not to model the brake gear this time due to a lack of clear photographs and drawings for them.
Visually I can see quite clearly how the majority of the arrangements work (similar to a basic wagon with cam arrangement) but to model them
accurately with the current lacking info would likely result in much guess work and I'd rather not do that.
Plus being thin they again run risk of print fails so brass rod and such like is the best option currently.
The following picture is a quick collection I made of the Furness version shortly before splitting it down into component parts.
The brake pads are still odd and there are two filler caps on the top, obviously you would pick the ones you need from sprue. Also the curved coal divider is optional so you can discard it if need be.

A0 Prototype Pacific RANGE RELEASED. Follow up pictures, video and maybe some more items may follow.
Shown is just one of the Full shells, currently the only one although I will be uploading a few. However MOST combinations you'll have to make yourself.
I know this is a niche subject yet important to me either way.
Showing a Full loco shell, a few more will follow however MOST combinations you'll have to make yourself. Details within.

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
I doubt this is going to interest anyone as hand built track generally calls for slow action for turnouts. However, as I'm currently in progress building my second attempt at a small N layout (The first worked great until the card track packing failed and I lost my temper!) I devised two little thingummies on my 3D printer to help install SEEP point motors.
Rather than explain everything here I'll just link you to the Shapeways versions where you can nab them if you want,
the instructions explain it all but I'll leave you with a picture of a packing plate installed on one of my SEEPs.

&
https://www.shapeways.com/product/R7CUGN4YB/seep-solenoid-3mm-packing-plates-x6
Packing plates can be made to different thicknesses if you get in touch. As default they are set to 3mm which is what I needed them to be.

Packing plates can be made to different thicknesses if you get in touch. As default they are set to 3mm which is what I needed them to be.

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
Will periodically be uploading both the 4 & 7mm versions.
Cylinder covers will be a separate option purchase simply
because they conflicted with the chassis and it's the only
realistic way of offering them, they'd have to be filed to
fit your chosen gauge though. I can make the splashers as
a separate also if anyone wants them for scratch building.
On the models I have decided to integrate them as there
were no other types to my knowledge used.

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
Furness D1 & Cambrian Small Goods Class (SGC) has now been released in 4mm. 7mm re-scales and tweaks will be done in due time also.
I have integrated the splashers on both the standard D1 that is in a particular combination from the get go and also the BASIC version that requires you customize it with the other parts yourself to create the version you want. I have tried to balance the pricing here as best as possible but due to Shapeways' insisting on having a charge for every file upload on top of the item it is a little dearer to make a different combination if sticking to FUD throughout. I cannot currently do anything about this sadly. :-/
Anyway, Many of the optional parts are compatible with the E1 also so the previous set of cabs and chimneys and fireboxes are all interchangeable with the E1, D1 and Cambrian versions.
Also of note, the product renderings currently refuse to move where I tell them too, despite me doing it about 5 times already. It might take a few days I don't know. Usual mess about. You can view them on the 3D viewer anyway to have a good look at the meshes.
Listed below is almost the full run down, some items of which you may already have saw before as they are also for the E1.

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
With effort to reduce the high cost of the Shapeways prints we're now at the point where a few SCC loco bodies can be ordered directly. These items offered directly are created from the Anycubic Photon DLP printer.
The range from here will be expanded incrementally at a pace aligned with the setting experiments and trials until I am happy the prints are turning out as good as they can be, any found improvements will be implemented of course. Also please bear in mind the build plate is small so not everything can be printed directly although a good portion can.
For now we are starting off with just a few but if you have any specific requests or order of things to be made available let me know as it helps gauge interest.
The 4mm E2's will be the next Photon release as I'm a gnats fart away from getting things optimized and ready.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yXX2FR ... e=youtu.be
To start off, short answer...
New prices for first items are as follows:
L&YR Class 28 (& Mogul Experiment) All 4mm versions are
£45 or £40 with supports, compared to Shapeways £97 or so for the same sort of resin material and quality, also Shapeways WSF is about £47 too so I now offer the cheapest option for a better quality.
New pricing for the N Gauge E2 bodies is £22 or £20 with supports compared to Shapeways £32-38 version!

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
So how about a SE&CR R1 class. The same as Hornby Dublo used to produce in the 60's? A simple 0-6-0 tank loco with lots of different varieties and they lasted along time. There is a lot of demand for SE&CR stuff at the moment and I believe that Hornby may be announcing something on Monday? fingers crossed.

Maybe one day, got quite a lot in the pipeline currently.
Unless someone is willing to pay for designing, in which case it could jump the cue.
Concentrating mostly on getting things Photon printable at the moment though.

It is interesting that you're now printing at home, as the Shapeways prices put me off buying much from there really.
I might be interested in an E2 at some point, as you're fairly local we can probably avoid posting as well.

Re: SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations
Shapeways prices I've never been happy with since inception and recently they have been increasing prices for FUD/FXD stuff even more on some items so they essentially are killing everything off for a large number of people.
I'm in process of writing up a Photon price list/catalogue type document to stand on for consistancy and easy communication of costs which will be published soon-ish.
Photon E2 body shells in 4mm are less than £49 now.
The items listed in the above post are even cheaper now too, sub £40.

Thanks, please see what you make of the following...
Spent a good while on this comparing prices.
EDIT: New List...
Also apologies for just annoyingly plastering it publicly taking up all the space but I do not know any other way, how to create download links etc. I'll happily email you a PDF though.
EDIT: PDF Download of all the above for your records or musing.
