Looks like it will be another great show. Should be there again, not booked a hotel yet, so might only come up for one day this year as finances have become tighter since last year.
Re: Scaleforum North 2018
I shall be coming down by train. Incidentally, if anyone out there is a Tesco clubcard member, you can if eligible get a new one year senior railcard for £15 worth of clubcard vouchers (normal price £30).

Peter,
No test track, I'm afraid. But I'm sure that if you smile at a layout owner or two, they will give you a period of "running rights". Particularly on the Sunday when shows are traditionally quieter.
How else would you explain the appearance of a Great Eastern Railway Coffepot deep in GWR country?
Is it DC or DCC that you are looking to test?
Cheers

It's DC. Works fine on my smallish end-to-end layout but would be nice to see it stretch its legs on something large and round.

That's no way to describe members !
Ordsall Road (BR(E)), Forge Mill Sidings (BR(M)), Kirkcliffe Coking Plant (BR(E)), Swanage (BR (S)) and Heaby (LMS/MR). Acquired Thorneywood (GNR). Still trying to "Keep the Balance".

Re: Scaleforum North 2018
Well it may be three sleeps for you Steve but for those of us suffering the stress and anxiety of exhibiting at a society show for the first time with our first attempt at a P4 layout there isn't going to be much sleeping done!
So in addition to the sublime of the likes of Pulborough, Clutton etc I'll be there with my (work in progress) layout Boston Frodsham. Please go easy on me.
Hope this doesn't deter too many people from attending what should be a great show which I'm really looking forward to (though with some degree of trepidation)!

So am I.
Looks fantastic Mike.
I’ll drop by and say hello. I’ll be looking out for a person with ‘bags under their eyes’ from lack of sleep
Cheers

I remember my first time which was at Scaleforum and my first P4 layout (in fact first ever layout)......triple checked to see that I had loaded everything in the car, then double checked again.......
Angst when it was announced that the public were entering on the Saturday morning......but all went well. People were easy on me.
You will certainly enjoy the experience and camaraderie and once home on Sunday night will wonder why you had misgivings.
Enjoy the weekend........I will be attending thanks to Ken who is driving me there.......I'll come and say hello........I'm the one with his arm in a sling!!!!
Good luck!!!!......

Re: Scaleforum North 2018
Been there - had those worries and I would echo what Rob has said.
The only additional bit I would add is try and make sure you get a few little breaks over the weekend. At Scaleforum in 2015 it was 1530 on the Saturday before I realised I'd not even stopped for a drink!!!
Looks good and I'm also looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

Re: Scaleforum North 2018
I echo those sentiments. I took Horsley Bank to Scaleforum when it was at Leatherhead which was its first 'proper' outing, not knowing what to expect. By 10.15 the crowd was five deep around the layout (which is only 4' long!) and it amazed me the warmth of reception it received. Went home with the Ken York trophy!!
It'll be great, enjoy

Re: Scaleforum North 2018
I think that people such as I who can not exhibit at scalefourum, but do attend when possible, appreciate those that do manage to exhibit and put on show their handy work. Rob may not remember when he exhibited in 2014 that I really liked his layout as we had all seen it grow here on the forum.
I am mightily impressed with Mikes layout so far. We unfortunately all tend to do modelling on our own generally and to see progress such as Mike's, Robs, Jim's Brettnell rd et al all encourage us to all do something and push us from the arm chair. This is one of the differences I believe to that of the local club (well it certainly is compared to those here in Melbourne) when the work is to the standard of the lowest member and there is also the politics of the clubs. This is the great thing about the society in that the exhibitions and support here on the forum, with little politics with the general membership.
So have a great weekend enjoy the days, don't forget to eat and drink and engage with the larger membership which tends not to be on here

Re: Scaleforum North 2018
Just back home from a long, tiring but thoroughly enjoyable day in Wakefield. Quite a round trip from Somerset but worth it.
The room seemed busy all day and there was lots to see and spend money on. I thought the layouts were all very good and I was especially impressed by the new lever frame and interlocking kits.
Having missed scale forum back in September it was good to soak up some inspiration!
Well done to all concerned.
If you're debating whether to go tomorrow, I'd recommend it.
