Having allowed some time for sense to settle and after Will Litchfield kindly highlighting this thread, I feel that I had better muse on current happenings.
Not being well again does actually have a small benefit sometimes. Being able to sit amd plan has allowed me to assess using some of the commercially available decals. The result is that the most recent work features decals from Railtec, Modelmaster and Fox Transfers. I have been attempting to get a lot of auld projects finished and this seems a way forward. Yes the ALPS stuff is fun and flexible but needs must. The "Beastie" is going out this summer and frankly, I want to get done and then play with newer projects.
Onto other things, I am playing with some of the new primers available from the military modelling world. The hope is create a suitable base to promote getting some really scabby finished paint jobs...
This of course all depends on how my health behaves. Oh for the sweet summer warmth and light; with bird song and...

Finally, some updated progress from sunny Padgate.
I aim to have all the stock that I am working on finished and working, for Mostyns appearance at the Wigan Finescale Railway Modellers show in Wigan. That being over the weekend of the 7th & 8th of June. If one is going, I hope to see you there on at least one of the days.







An auld LNER fitted van still in engineers use.
Lettering is a mixture of ALPS home brew and Modelmaster













The Medfit project is finally coming to fruition as one can see - decrepitude still to be fully exercised here mind.





More 12T diag. 1/208 BR vans are also nearing the finishing line.

Once these are fully done and finished, the images will be posted up.

After so much time wasted with darkness, illness and general malaise, getting these in service this last weekend was a joy.

I am pleased with effect and finish here. Crud and muck lodged in places and the rusty end plate I think works?



This, I hope, captures a typical engineering stock lash job with regards to identification.



The venerable end of and auld, unfitted LMS medfit. Skanky and cruddy with some last vestiges of use.
The Electrification Warning notice decal has been mounted, as an experiment, on some plasticard to attempt to give some relief.

3-part ends are pressed-steel ends made in 3 sections. Those sections are stacked vertically so that one can see two horizontal, riveted seams between the corrugations.

You can't beat natural light. At a glance your rake genuinly looks real. No idea if the term 'rake' can apply to vans though.

After a long period of being off the beat again, "The Works" is back to life.
Yes, the very final vans are being finished and here are a couple of examples, one of each will function as part of one of Mostyns core traffics. The sulphur traffic demanded auld ironstone hoppers being sheeted when loaded; obviously when unloaded, this is were the van comes in.

More items will appear soon as Mostyn is out and about once more...

Stirrings in darkest Cheshire...
After another period of ill health, frustration and so on, the 'Works' is functioning once more.
The below images are some of the first, fully finished items for the infamous 'Spoil Rake,' destined for debut on Mostyn later in the year.
All the usual mucking about and gilding has been exercised and the loads are truly scabby, dirty ballast. These have been created frae DCC Concepts ballasts and various weathing pigments. Messy but fun...

I shall sort out some suitable dribbling about the bare wood, others elsewhere have asked for them.
When I get chance, I hope he to do a resume on the waste ballast loads as well.

Many years ago - probably about 25 or so, an early exercise in P4 by my son and myself was scrapped. Some of the track was ballasted and this was reclaimed by soaking with water and then scraping off the baseboard. This real reclaimed ballast in 4mm scale was then retained on the basis that it will come in handy one day which is has - for a spoil train. A quick spay with Railmatch sleeper grime gives an effective load.
