Swanage.
This isn't so much "on my workbench" as a 30 year old model. It was built on two of the boards of our original 8x4 trainset. Another Another 6 boards were added. All from chipboard with Barry Norman style frames. As such it is heavy. 20 years in a garage hasn't done it a lot of good and there is a lot of damage. Some of it will need totally rebuilding. Some not. I never finished the buildings and the whole thing stalled after becoming a solo project. I think as something a 21-23yr old built, it was pretty impressive.

Re: Swanage.
Somebody used to do cast while metal versions of these point levers. We installed them on our layout and they proved too vulnerable to damage during track cleaning. In desperation I bent up some coper wire (out of a ring main cable) to the the right basic shape, then hammered them flat and filed them to the final shape. The hammering hardened them nicely and they lasted the life of the layout (15 years).

I think these are etched. They are strong. Possibly Shirescenes.

Looks lovely. 20 odd years ago I started building Furzebrook but still haven't got as far as that and it's in storage in my workshop. Has anyone built Corfe Castle in P4? We could recreate most of the branch

Re: Swanage.
Someone in Nottingham had the whole branch but in 00. It was lovely but very large and he wanted £3000 for it.

I have a full complement of freight stock for Swanage and four passenger trains. Locos are an M7, West Country, T9, N, Q, Q1 (though I doubt one ever ran down there), LMS 2-6-2T, BR standard 4 tank 80xxx, a BR Standard 2-6-0 76xxx, two Class 33's, a 47. Perhaps it will get finished one day.

I could lend you a suitable Hampshire unit but then you wouldn't need most of that trackwork...

The layout is now up (sans fiddle yard) and the first time it has been seen like this in around 16 years.

Re: Swanage.
Bad news about Swanage. The studio roof leaked and has damaged one and two half boards. One siding has lifted totally from the board and the chipboard has swelled badly. The damage is mainly in the coal yard. I'm considering what to do with it pending a period of drying out.

The studio (at SOAR works Sheffield) is still leaking. The damage is irrepairable. I'm going to have to replace those sections of the layout damaged.

Disgraceful as the building is only 3-4 years old.

Re: Swanage.
The road bridge got damaged in a move so today it was repaired. Here was a rare chance to see my construction techniques circa late 1980s. The whole thing is a polystyrene roadbed with foamboard sides and abutments. Cork road surface. The cosmetic arch is Slater's and the rest is Wills, blended with polyfiller. All painted with gouache and watercolours.

Repair work today as I caught a wing rail and the (K&L) chairs disintegrated. They're over 30 years old though.

I used the correct Exactoscale /P4 Track Company chairs instead of cutting ordinary ones as I did on the original point.

Re: Swanage.
I agree with Steve, admirable determination, and a layout very close to my heart ..... and my house! I took some snaps today when we were out for our daily walk. This shot was taken from Northbrook Road bridge

I had a flip through this thread from the beginning. Looks so like the prototype. I'll follow keenly!

SR D52 strengthening Push-Pull coach at Swanage. The real one allocated there had matchboard lower sides, but this saved me building the kit (for which I have the sides) for now.

I took a few pictures of the East (Seaward) end of the layout. If anyone has, or knows of images of these huts, or the front of the garage, council yard and buildings where the Co-op and Health Centre are now, please let me know.

Re: Swanage.
Swanage weighbridge building became damaged a few years ago and following a new photo which showed a window in the gable end alterations were inevitable. Here's the building disassembled.

Re: Swanage.
Progress on the weigh bridge. I worked out the height, counting bricks on the best photos I have and decided I didn't have to alter the sides at all. The door was too tall and in the wrong place, so a new end was required. At the seaward end, a new window aperture was cut.
