Scaleforum 2014

Postby David B » Fri Oct 11, 2013 11:05 pm

Scaleforum 2013 has been and gone and most enjoyable it was, too. As for the next Scaleforum in 2014:

What I am looking forward to . . . .
What I would like to see . . . .
What would really make me want to come . . . .

Maybe if it was a bit more local to where I live!

Maybe if it wasn't always on the weekend closest to my wife's birthday - and she does not appreciate me deciding that "trains" are more important than she is - and, yes, she has been to a Scaleforum.

As people have started this thread before poor Terry had a chance to put his feet up after the last one. I thought I would resurrect it after Terry's post of teasers for this year.

So my guesses of layouts for this year are:
Knutsford (well Will let it out of the bag on the Crew AG's blog)
Manston Brewery
Clecklewyke
I can't remember the layout name to the NER with Overhead.
I have no idea of the GWR layout though!

Would be nice to make it again though!

Knutsford - correct
Manston Brewery - correct
Clecklewyke - no
NER with overhead - Lowburn Park

As for the rest, either have a guess or wait and see! :D

You know this might turn into a bit of a "wish list" of layouts that people would want to see... Terry I can see you being a big tease.... letting out little bits of information to send us off on different tangents :D

I hope so Jo. I have the space reserved for you. :)

It is indeed. That's why it is coming. :D But the others we have lined up are very good as well.

All part of the fun Doug, but we will publish a list of attractions in due course, once everything is firmed up.

As it's a wish list, how about the seminal layout Bembridge. I saw this at the Central Hall in C1970.

OR Yatton, the second one.
It had a big influence in this locale.

Not P4 tho', was Bembridge P4?

No reason at all why Bembridge should not come Tim. As long as it is still available for exhibition we will be pleased to have it. Someone will have to give me the contact details of the current owner since I don't have them. Send a message to scaleforum@scalefour.org

Anyone who has suggestions for layouts or anything else that they would like to see at Scaleforum is always welcome to get in touch, and I am sure that James will say the same about Scalefour North. After all the shows are put on for the enjoyment and benefit of the members of the Society.

Bembridge was sold after the Easter show in 1985 and later made its way to the museum at Haven Street where it suffered from some modification apparently - possibly even to 00. So that's unfortunately a non-starter.

Rod has beaten me to reporting the results of his investigation, which I asked him to do, having not had any responses to my query. Thanks for your help on this one Rod. However, as mentioned in my last post on this topic, we are always happy to get suggestions for other layouts that people might like to see, new or old.

OK new one for you Terry. When are you going to open up the advance tickets this year!

I note that there has been no more guessing on the layout front! :D

Hi Doug,

We usually start advance ticket sales from 1st July and plan to do the same this year. So you'll be able to buy your ticket in 79 days time :D

All the Best

The next isue of scalefour News, due out on May 1st will contain a preview of the show and this will include the layouts and demonstrators. We have a very good line up again this year and as always it will be well worth the trip. (However far you have to come :) )

You may have noticed Scaleforum Flyers at a model railway show or club near you. They are now available from our website, on Scaleforum 2014's homepage:

www.scalefour.org/scaleforum/2014

I understand Scalefour News 187 will have lots more details in it, although it is now expected mid May.

And if you have got your copy by now, and have had a chance to read it you will have seen the line-up listed on pages 6 and 7. Unfortunately I managed to miss one of the layouts out of the information so apologies to the Westinghouse MRC who will be bringing Midland Sidings along.

Some people will have realised that the studious looking gentleman in the picture on page 6 is not in fact Phil Eames, despite what the caption states, but is Paul Wade builder of the much admired Tunbridge West Yard, but that error is not down to me. ;)

I've now distilled the preview in Scalefour News onto the show's home page. Final details remain to be worked out, but that page will doubtless host a link to the advance ticket sales in around a month.

I've just refreshed the list of demonstrators. I was missing one, and had the titles of a couple more a bit wrong.

Our show page now lists the traders attending, and contains the latest details of the demos planned. The eagle eyed will spot that I've started creating pages for the show intended to be for both this year, and the show in general. That frees me to post some details about 2015. Hopefully having dates for two shows live on the site will not cause any confusion, and will allow those of us making plans to do so before the previous show is over!
