Newport MRS Open Day alias Gwyl 4mm Gwent 2 March
Newport MRS Open Day alias Gwyl 4mm Gwent / Gwent 4mm Festival
Newport MRS in association with NAGNAG (the Newport and Gwent Neighbourhood Area Group of the Scalefour Society) are holding an open day on Saturday 2nd March 2013 10:30 to 16:30
The Idea
Flushed with the success of our last open day, which was held on Saturday 16th October 1971, we have decided to hold another one.
The open day isn’t meant to be an exhibition rather an opportunity to chat with fellow modellers and share a few experiences. The layouts won’t be operating as they would at an exhibition giving visitors and club members alike a chance to swap thoughts. Hopefully visitors will have the opportunity to run one or two of their locos too.
The emphasis will be on Scalefour, with four layouts - Allt-y-Graban Road, Crockherbtown, Cwm Du and Llanastr, but Gauge O will be represented with the club’s soon-to-be-finished layout, Frecclesham, and a part of the club test track.
Admission will be free (but our Treasurer has never been known to turn down a donation). Light refreshments will be available during the day.
Naturally all Scalefour Society members will we warmly welcomed
Further Details may be found on the Newport MRS website http://www.newportmrs.com/

What's happened to Little Mill Junction? It was started in 2009...

The Fiddle Yard has been completed and will be on view on the day. The boards for the display section have either been or are about to be ordered so that work can start on that aspect of the layout.

I was looking forward to attending, but found out at the end of this week that I am rostered on a driver experience course on Saturday, so will not be able to make it!
Have a good day chaps.

What is the lunch provision? Is the supermarket walkable from the centre?

I bought it and it is currently masquerading as Bradford North Western, the terminus of what will eventually be a fairly substantial chunk of West Riding Railway. I've not done much work on Belle View yet, concentrating more on building the rest of the branch and getting Humber Dock ready for Scalefour North in April, but it will eventually be converted to something more like a West Riding terminus by replacing all the buildings and scenery. But buying it has bought me a lot of time!
More details here:
http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/51388-bradford-north-western-branch/
It is operated regularly by the local area group (CRAG) and we get a lot pf enjoyment from it:
http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/48955-cumbrian-region-area-group-s4-society/
Humber Dock can be seen here:

So thanks, Newport MRC. I hope you have a good day. Wensleydale's a bit far, so I cannot attend. But you must get on with Little Mill Junction. It looks like a promising project: all it needs is an invitation from Terry Benthall to Scalefourum 2015 - then it'll get finished. Wonderful things, deadlines!
If you get to Scalefour North, do seek out Humber Dock and say hello.

A huge Sainsbury's has opened just down the road. Easily walkable and has a coffee shop. Failing that there a new Indian opened at the end of the street.
Look forward to seeing you.

and, for the less discerning, a McDonald's on the corner.

Am I right in thinking that tea and cakes will be available on the premises of the Open Day (admittedly not sufficient to qualify as lunch)?

What a cracking day. Perhaps it should have been billed as Scalefour Wales
Five (yes I said 5) P4 layouts, two work in progress. Plus a 7mm layout, cakes, coffee/tea, demonstrations of springy diesels
An excellent showcase for the club.
I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow.
Anyone who didn't go missed a treat.

I'd just like to echo Tim's comments. I had a really enjoyable time. Don't leave it so long until the next open day, how about another in say two years time? Perhaps with some input from the Glevum/Bristol AGs?

My class 2 Ivatt on Llanstr
Finally, the Nag Nag team after the day, with a refreshing cup of something....

Just to add a few more photos taken from the day and to echo all comments to date...great day, great atmosphere, great company. It could only have been better if we'd held the open day in the Arms Park, with the Pontypridd Male voice choir in attendance! And no rain of course.
Mr Newitt's superb milk tanks.
LMJ fiddle yard up and running!
Tim wasn't the only one who took advantage of Bernie Baker's layout!
For a full report on the day:

Thanks to Justin Newitt for providing a technical assistance with his sprung diesels and other etches, kept a lot of people deep in thought over some of his designs, thank you Justin.
Thanks to everyone who came, many thanks to those who made the day SO enjoyable. You never know we might get around tuit again sometime.

I am sorry I missed this. It was probably only 30 minutes' drive for me (each way), but I was otherwise engaged on Saturday. Perhaps next time.
Re: Newport MRS Open Day alias Gwyl 4mm Gwent 2 March
A great day with a lovely atmosphere. A big thanks to the NAGNAG guys for the invite and taking the time to organise everything. I think the following photo says all you need to know about how enjoyable it all was.
I shall look forward to the next one, hopefully before 2055!

Justin,
What a brilliant photo and sorry I couldn't make it. Having just got off the phone to Mike it sounds like you all had a good time. However, I cannot help but think that somewhere up in the valleys there is a village missing it's idiot....
Cheers....Morgan
