Balcombe testing

Postby Rod Cameron » Wed Aug 29, 2018 10:45 am

This bank holiday weekend just gone would have been the dress rehearsal for Scaleforum, but personal events conspired against us and brought progress almost to a halt. Nonetheless we kept the hall booking (the only occasions when we can put it all up) for an assembly and running test.

Here are some of the results.

That looks awesome! Which couplings did you standardize on for the freight stock?

Hi Mike,

The freight stock in the videos are built by myself. They are a mixture of Masokits screw links and Ambis Models hooks, chains and Instanter links.

For anyone else who is interested, the last 9 vehicles in the train are rigid, some with a little extra weight added with Alan Gibson or Ultrascale wheels. The rest are sprung with the Masokits W-Irons and Ultrascale wheels, including the CCT which has one of his underframes.

One funny point, about 75% of the wagons don't have buffer heads, relying purely on the shanks when shunted.

Kind regards,

Nick

Looks like someone got out all the freight stock they have. :) Very impressive.

As has been mentioned Balcombe won't be at Scaleforum this year but John and Rod have agreed that it will definitely be present next year.

This is one h..l of a model railway, and continues the modern theme of big layouts in EM and P4. Just as I thought thought mine was going to be pretty big. Trains just get completely lost in the landscape. I can’t wait to see it complete!

Oh boy. That certainly is well impressive, both the scale of the enterprise and quality of running. Love the wheel beats in the first video.
Look forward to seeing it for real at some point.
Thanks for posting Rod.
Encourages me to get on with my project.

Thanks everybody for the kind words. We're getting there at last!

Yes it will...hopefully two. Also a Raworth electric and a 6CIT if all goes to plan!

Just when you think you've got a big one someone else pulls out an even bigger one. LOL. Excellent to see, great stuff. Who says you can't have big p4 layouts?

Idiots!

Certainly there are several of us having a go at proving them wrong.
I have viewed the videos several times and it doesn't become any less impressive!
