Nice job Mr Horn! Truly inspirational work. Could you summarize this all, software used (file types) and materials? I have managed to track down one of these Makespace laser cutters to Bristol and as soon as LMJ needs buildings I am definitely going down this route - brickwork allowing. If you know a way the laser will cut rough finish slab stone, now that would be even more special.
Thanks for sharing such a 'revolutionary' approach, brilliant, look forward to more.

kindest regards

Mike

Hi Mike

Is this the sort of thing you had in mind? As an experiment we tried laser cutting 3mm cork floor tile which has one sanded and one unsanded side. This is the unsanded which gives a nice uneven texture.

And as a reprise of the subject of laser cutting, one of my friends has just posted this link to me...

Not for me, although if you read it carefully you'll see that the level of understanding of electronics is at about my level :-)

Now that looks promising.

The laser cut brickwork looks fabulous for neat engineered brickwork (which to be fair was used a lot by the railways) but it is just too neat for more vernacular brickwork; that cork tile might be the way to do it.

Can I encourage you to experiment more Mike on something bigger?

Another hijack to the thread - here is a laser cut model of Thaxted water tower that I cut from 1.5mm MDF.

Thanks for all the links and pics above, David, love the water tower :)

We have just had the final pre-exhibition test over the Bank Holiday weekend. All went well, with a couple of issues flagged up which should be sorted out in time for its first exhibition in September. Phil has done an excellent job in covering most of the boards to a minimum standard of scenery, with only 8 foot of the 40 foot left to get covered in the next few months. Big thanks to all the boys for the help and continued support of this project.

Hope you enjoy the photos so far . . .

That is sensational! Completely in awe of that. I may have missed it - but where is the first outing of this layout?

It's just over a week to go before we head up north to Manchester for the first show with CSv2.

I've spent the past few days doing the track cleaning, testing and road numbering of my Storage Yard. With 36 roads available for us to use, we did need a visual aid to tie in with the laptop route settings.

I've lasercut them out of four different coloured material. We should be able to quickly see what route we want now.

Please do come and say hello and have a chat if you're going to expoEM North on the 14th & 15th September.

Cheers
Tim

Phil's debut ExpoEM North has come and gone, and we had a very good time. I know that everyone enjoyed themselves, and a great team effort by everyone helping. It was a testing time for the layout too, but overall, it behaved itself very well. The only noticeable problem was an overheating Digitrax box on the Saturday afternoon on the Storage Yard, which was solved by Mike T adding another booster inline to lower the constant power consumption from a single source.

Overall I'm very pleased with the performance, still some room for improvement in both reliability (a couple of points and the odd errant piece of stock) and operating, but we gave a solid performance, with up to 5 large trains moving at once out the front :) Plenty of detailing scenery wise is called for now, as the layout is at its most basic at the moment.

Roll on ExpoEM in May 2014, and Scaleforum in September 2014 :)

Cheers
Tim

Good photos. Being parked next to CS2 all weekend made us feel quite small in comparison! But then so was everything! The sprinter going full throttle round the curves was a little disconcerting at times but the 2 HST's passing at speed was impressive.

Brilliant pictures Tim, and brilliant modelling from Phil and the team. No question now about the concept of P4 not being prooved with long trains and high speeds. A great contrast between Calcutta Sidings and Wheal Elizabeth next door which just shows that P4 is not always about branch lines. That of course is not to belittle Andrew's work which is equally stunning.

Roll on ExpoEM in May 2013, and Scaleforum in September 2013 :)

For avoidance of doubt, I take it both these dates should be 2014. :)
I'm looking forward to the spectacle.

Brilliant stuff Tim (and Phil). The video clips should dispel any doubts about P4 not being successful. :D

We had a good Glasgow show, layout performed well. Only downside being my van is still stuck up in Glasgow with a broken fuel pump awaiting fixing.
