Anyone left following this thread may be forgiven for thinking things had gone very quiet on the layout front. By way of explanation for my lack of postings/updates, I'm now in a position to give an update.....
So the last post here was just after Perth last summer. In the background I'd had a problem with the model railway part of the workshops that I work in and Cadhay is stored in (and set up in for operating sessions). A small roof leak had resulted in the roofer identifying an Asbestos Cement roof that he could not deal with and the asbestos expert basically required the whole roof (about half of this area of workshop) to be stripped as soon as possible. As such, arrangements were made to temporarily store Cadhay after the Perth show with Burntisland 1883 which was (fortunately for me) being stored in the village here as well. In August the roof was removed and disposed of, which left me not only roofless, but able to examine the rest of the structure, at which point a very dodgy wall came down as well!
Here's what it looked like early September:

Given this post is now April 2024 I think you'll guess this was not a short fix!! Suffice to say some concreting, block laying and finally roofing took me, with help from my joiner mate Neil next door, around 6 months to get back to a watertight workshop which was actually a better rectangular shape for my work and also Cadhay.
We were all set at the end of January to move Cadhay back in from the store (with plenty of time to get things ready for the Bristol show in May!) when the great storm of 21st Jan struck and this happened to the joinery shop roof which is the other part of the workshops:

I didn't find it until mid-morning on the Monday after the storm and by then there was around 2" of water on the joinery shop wooden floor - until I put my foot through it in 3 places! All the joinery gear (most of which was unscathed) plus some expensive Oak destined for Mrs G's new skirting boards (also unscathed!) had to be moved out into the "new" bit of the model railway workshop just rebuilt, and Cadhay had to stay in storage while we considered how to re-roof.
There's more to this story to get to where I am now with Cadhay and I'll post some more in the next few days to show how we've recovered, but first it get's worse...........stay tuned!
Cheers
Chris
