Re: LRM A class
Just looking John, Again very nice work.
I am interested in the springs above the foot board. Are they part of the kit?
I need to install some in a LNER G6 (NER BTP). The loco I built didnt have them in the kit (OK it was second hand and I suspect they had gone west along time ago) but I would like to either scratch build some or purchase an etch!

Hi Doug,
The springs above the footplate are part of the chassis etch although there are some overlays in the kit. Thank you for your comments.

John (LRM) does some cast brass springs for the BTP as accessories.

Re: LRM A class
The kit for the A Class was designed by Nick Easton as part of his BIWO (Because I Want One) range and is currently supplied through LRM when there are sufficient orders to order a batch of etches.
The springs were presumably designed as part of the etch It is a shame that Nick Easton didn't include some spring overlays to increase the width of the etched springs. LRM do a lost wax sprue that includes some nice springs (as supplied in the LNWR 2-4-0 kits) but also some other items that would probably not be needed for this kit.

I have Just started the tender for the A class. I always find it a bit worrying forming the bends, I use a 4mm masonry drill

Re: LRM A class
Maybe a question for Jol, but is there any reason why the loco is in nickel-silver and the tender in brass?
Thanks,
Geraint

Hi Geraint, the tender kits only come in brass, a Nickel silver kit would be nice

Re: LRM A class
The LNWR 1500, 1800 and 2000 gallon tenders in the LRM range were originally George Norton Connoisseur Choice kits. They have etched n/s chassis and brass bodies, very much the norm at the time they were designed.
The 2500 gallon tender, designed for the LNWR Renown kit is etched entirely in n/s. I designed it for John Redrup that way as it required only one etch tool and n/s is nicer to solder than brass. Most of the designs I did for LRM were in n/s, except where some of the model required visible brass components, such as brass beadings on the NER G1.
I doubt that any of the A Class ran with 2500g tenders although some of the longer lived 0-6-0s did, as far as I know. When coupled to a Coal Engine, the loaded tender would have weighed more than the loco.

Re: LRM A class
A little bit more work on the A class, I have added the fire box and the splashers. I am rather pleased with this kit as I like the Prototype. I have also ordered a chassis jig from Poppy's, so ill post how I get on with that un due course
