Re: A few things on my workbench
I've not been paying a lot of attention to this thread, as etched brass doesn't interest me much, although I can, and do, admire the workmanship involved in what you have achieved. The reason for writing now is that I noticed that it appears that you have painted the steps. My memories of BR WR in the early 1960s, such as they are now, are of steps and horizontal woodwork on landings and across the track being grey weathered wood which looked as though it had never seen a paintbrush since the GW installed it. Floorboards in buildings were much the same. Presumably there was little point in applying paint as the expected heavy usage would have removed it pretty quickly.

Hi Noel
You are quite correct about the colour of the footboards. At present the footbridge has only been painted a wood colour. Once the roof is finished and painted, smoke deflectors fitted and finials fitted then heavy weathering will be applied in the case of the steps a mix of metal cote and washes applied to the footboards and centre span so you get that grey worn look with a hint of wood colour.

Re: A few things on my workbench
Thank you Simon. To date I would say 90+ hours. I recon I still have at least another 15 hours before it's finished as smoke deflectors to be fitted, finials if I can get them made by modelu and paint touched up and weathering applied.

Thank you for your comments. And yes Dave it will be at scaleforum. I may not have the steps done and to be quite honest I don't mind the colour they are but I might just give them a light wash and say the steps and wood work has just been replaced which they were.

A couple of photos in natural light. Changed my mind and decided to start weathering the steps

Hi Pete,
Good to talk to you today at Scaleforum, and great to see the footbridge in the flesh.
Could you let us know the source of the corrugated brass you used for the roof?
Kind regards
Ian
