Re: A few things on my workbench
Well the bridge spans are now finished except I need to put in a couple of scrap brass at the top of the triangle where the monogam is to make the girderwork look continuous. Also need to clean up excess solder with fibre sticks.

Long staircases completed and soldered to main span. Photo's taken after a scrub with cif. Just noticed one of the foot treads has come unsoldered after the scrub will resolder in a while.

Re: A few things on my workbench
All the brass jig has been removed from the footbridge and the girderwork fitted underneath the bridge and corner platforms soldered in place. Next step is to fit all of roof components.

Looking very nice indeed Pete, out of interest, whose brand of paint did you use?

Hi Steve
Thanks for the compliment. The paint used is precision paints which I find very good. I have now started to apply the dark stone.

Re: A few things on my workbench
A slight diversion from the footbridge as my sons got me a ratio GWR signalbox for Christmas. It is a really nice model except for the raised window and door brick arches. So decided to file them flush. The results are showen below. Now can any members suggest what paints to use for the brickwork for the main building and for engineering blue bricks.

I have always used the relevant matt Humbrol enamel paint colours for brickwork. My usual practice is to lay down a fairly thin wash of a pale stone colour to represent the mortar and then wipe most of it off before it dries. This tones down the colour of the plastic. I then use a selection of brick shades mixed on a small plastic lid and pick out individual bricks, mixing the shades together and not bothering to clean the brush between the various colours. This gives a mix of shades. After everything is dry the whole building gets a thin wash of track colour to tone things down and perhaps some dry brushing for additional weathering. There is a Humbrol blue that is a fairly good match for engineers blue but I cannot remember the number. You can see the results at https://www.scalefour.org/scaleforum/20 ... ngs-2.html

Re: A few things on my workbench
Terry is the colour Oxford blue humbrol 104?
I was painting some buildings I should have completed about 10 years ago. Yes to my shame I started them 10 years ago I had a thread on rmweb about building them so I found out when I started them! I am now trying to finish off some things I started years ago in a effort to clear out/ clean up the front room I have all my models and things in. I needed the blue for a set of garages/ sheds for my goods yard on the OO layout. (Again another couple of buildings that started about 10 years ago now almost finished)
2 years ago I had a New Years resolution to finish a model each month. At the end of the year I had about 16 models finished! Not sure if I should have a resolution this year or not... I need to finish my V2's but I keep finding smaller projects that keep distracting me. Then again I do have another 2 weeks of holidays to think about it..

Doug,
You've hit the nail on the head about the need to Get Things Finished!
In some respects, I'm my own worst enemy on this. Over the past few years, to make the most of the concentrated time available for modelling in the excellent loco building workshops at Missenden Abbey, I'm aimed to start a new loco kit, and see how much I can get built in a weekend. Usually, it's quite a lot, then there comes the fact that I go to the next one before finishing the last kit...
The 48xx I'm currently building was started in March 2020 at Missenden. That was virtually the last event that I went to before Lockdown 1.0 started. So it's been a long story already. However, I've nearly finished the body, and then there is only a bit left with the chassis before it's through the paintshop.
But you'll have seen over the year how I fell prey to a couple of GWR wagons, and a Midland van, and... More concentration needed!
Stay safe,
Paul
