There's significant gaps in the generally available information on NER ND lattice signals which has long been a frustration, particularly width of decks. The lamps certainly were bigger than further south but the chimney was more modest than your drg. Have you seen John Wright's signal drgs in Model Railways May, June and July (have just found reference to Aug, which I don't have but series seemed complete) 1988? I'm not aware that any of these signals with lattice dolls have survived. There were some in Myanmar and I wonder what the Aussies might have stashed away but they wouldn't be slotted.

Have you acquired the correct NER ND spectacles?

The Socially Distanced Challenge Entry No. 3 – Signals

It might have been quiet on this forum, but there's been stuff happening in the background on these signal lamps ...

An email exchange with Alan Buttler at https://www.modelu3d.co.uk/ elicited a positive response that he would be quite happy to produce lamp cases for me, but did I have an accurate drawing? And he pointed me towards the McKenzie & Holland archives: -

I'm still digesting these drawing catalogues!

In the meantime, the response to my query on the North Eastern Railway Association forum (https://ner.org.uk/) suggested that by my period of interest in 1938, the LNER would have replaced all the lamps with the standard Adlake-type lamps used by both the LNER and LMS and continuing into BR days. I'm not quite convinced, but since ModelU does a nice 3D printed "Adlake LMS No55 Signal Lamp", I ordered some to have a look at.

They're very nice, printed hollow so a surface mount LED will fit inside, but to my eyes they're smaller than the lamps I'm looking at in photos, and the chimney is centred, whereas I see an offset to the left in the photos.

So I'm still not sure what the answer is ...

I'm happy with the the spectacles from the MSE "NER Slotted Post Signal Arms" etch (originally from D&S). Nothing fixed in place yet, but this looks right against the photos ...

The quest continues, and of course I've been spending time on other stuff like electronics ...

Think I might go relax by laying some more track!

I promise I'll get some of it right some of the time!
