NEEAG January 2018 meeting

Postby Jol Wilkinson » Fri Jan 19, 2018 10:44 am

Our next meeting is on Thursday 25 January at 7:00 p.m. Venue details on previous posts.

We didn't hold a "usual" December meeting but met at Andy Scales workshop between Christmas and the New Year for a daylight working session on the Lavenham baseboards. By the end of the day the underlay and track plans were laid down, so we can now move forward again with trackwork, The two "major" item a double slip and adjacent crossing are now complete and ready for installation and we should have laser cut bases for the rest of the point work in hand on Thursday. We should therefore be able to start on some significant and rewarding progress.

Andy introduced us to an interesting trick. The track plan is fixed to the underlay with double sided carpet tape. By painting this with washing up liquid, the paper track plan/template can be applied and if not correctly aligned, peeled of and reapplied. After several hours the paper template becomes permanently fixed.

Seven of the usual gang of eleven attended the January meeting. We spent the evening working on the Lavenham project. Angus had laser cut the sleepers to the design of Len Newman's track diagram drawing. Some had already been "fitted" and more were installed during the evening. The double slip and adjoining crossing at the north eastern end of the plan had been built "off site" and were fixed in place.

Here Paul, Andy and Nick are working on three of the four "scenic" baseboards (not aligned and joined). We plan a circular layout with the fiddle yard at the rear, so some of the curved boards attaching the the main scenic area will probably also become visible sections. We have the materials required for the rest of the trackwork, so can now start to get on with that.
