Self Adhesive Steel Weights

Postby David B » Fri Apr 01, 2016 8:50 am

It is usual practise to add weight to various bits of stock and more often than not, we use lumps of lead.

I had the misfortune to have a puncture yesterday that required the tyre to be replaced. When this last happened, the fitter hammered lead weights on to the rim to balance the wheel. This time, self-adhesive steel weights were put on, lead being a dirty word.

Looking on Ebay (search for 'wheel balancing weights'), weights are readily available as 5g and 10g lumps. There do no seem to be other sizes. I acquired a couple whose dimensions are: 5g: 19mm x 12mm, the 20g: 19mm x 22mm, both are 3mm thick.

I mention this as they may be an easy and appropriate way of adding weight, the self-adhesive facility being particularly useful.
