Evenin' all,

For those unfamiliar with BR publications there is a considerable range available from various sources inc. book dealers, Ebay etc.

This particular Sec. App. includes the following useful information for modellers:

From Section A

The method of working (type of signalling system) for each line within the district.

Official title of each line within the district.

Capacity and therefore length of passing loops, sidings etc

Gradients inc. falling or rising.

List of signal boxes.

Also:

Interesting exceptions to rules e.g. one wagon of coal or stores could be worked between any two signal boxes without a brakevan providing that the boxes were not more than one mile apart.

Identification of individual sidings in e.g. Coton Hill yard and the specific use that they were intended for: No1 up side for traffic for Hollinswood, Oxley & beyond: No 7 up side for urgent traffic ...livestock etc and so on.

Situations where propelling of freight traffic is specifically authorised e.g. The Ponkey branch...where the loco collecting traffic must be worked with a brakevan in rear. The train once formed at the Ruabon brick works can then be propelled back along the branch with the brakevan leading provided that a man rides in the brakevan. The branch to be worked as a siding.

Many more methods of working the various lines included in the Sec. App.

An excellent read

Dave
