North East of Scotland (Grampian) Area Group

Postby pheald » Tue Sep 20, 2011 12:17 pm

We meet monthly, usually on the last saturday of the month. Our meetings tend to be discusssions, viewing work by members with an opportunity to learn from each other. We have also had the opportunity to test our stock on 'HedleyHope'.

HedleyHope has been to several exhibitions in Scotland including Aberdeen, Dundee, Elgin and Inverness. We have been at Cupar earlier this month.

We shall be attending the annual Aberdeen Model Railway Exhibiton with the Societies 'stand in a box'. The exhibition is on the 29th and 30th of October at the Robert Gordons University Sports centre between 10-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.

This summer we have had visitors from East of Scotland Area Group.

At our last meeting we had the opportunity to operate John Anderson's Hedleyhope following its successful outing to the Cupar MRC show. Hedleyhope is a fictional town in North east England and the layout is fully (and properly) signalled, and woe betide any of us who fail to follow correct signalling procedure :D . The layout featured in the Scaleforum Challenge some years ago.

I've attached some photos below, courtesy of group member Tony Wickes, which show the latyout from various angles, as well as one of John Anderson operating it.

Just an up date from North East of Scotland Area Group

After some discussion we have decided to build a layout based on Great North of Scotland Railway practice. Our time frame will probably be set in the 1950's. An interesting prototypical draft track plan has been prepared and is to be finalised at the next meeting. We hope to commence baseboard construction over the winter period.

We are a small group spreadout over a wide area, anyone interested in joining us would be wellcome. Meetings take place monthly.
