Small Screws and nuts etc

Postby steve howe » Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:02 pm

With the sad loss of Eileen's I had a look around for some 14BA nuts.

This company is probably well known to the engineers among us, but I found them very quick, courteous and value for money:

Their catalogue lists many useful goodies of interest to us. No other connection other than a satisfied customer.

I have found BA Fasteners very good. For 14BA nuts: https://www.ba-bolts.co.uk/brassnut.html

Thanks to Steve and David for the links. I have not come across either of these suppliers before and they look very useful.

This company does not do email and web site and accepts orders over £10 only plus postage. Recommended to me by a gentleman of this parish about 10 years ago and I have used it a lot.
Catalogue is 32 pages and each type of screw, bolt or nut is offered in a number of lengths, heads etc etc etc in brass or steel etc etc etc
I have found him very helpful over the years and with fast delivery but the orders I have placed have been in lots of 50 or 100 per type.
For example :-
Brass slotted c/s screws 12 BA x 0.5" £9.44 for 50 or £2.22 for 10

Probably ideal for a club or group to share an order.

Plenty of people doing similar prices on ebay, and postage is often free. I've used GWR fasteners on there before (e.g. 20 x 8BA nuts @ £4.03, free postage). Just putting in "14BA" on ebay this morning and selecting the first seller listed gets me 50 x 14BA nuts for £10.85, postage free.

I must confess that I'm bowing to the inevitable by, where possible, switching to metric equivalents.

This site is interesting:

https://prime-miniatures.co.uk

An amazing range of tiny screws and fixings down to 0.6mm dia.

That's small enough for scale fishbolts and bolted crossing assemblies in 7mm scale track.

Plus a range of tiny eyebolts, turnbuckles, hinges, tubing, etc.

Also a range of fibre-optic fibres for lighting signals, etc.

Martin.

A great find Martin, I have gone metric but have had trouble finding brass screws (plenty of brass nuts though).

And I often see on here laments about the difficulty of resourcing small springs - see here https://prime-miniatures.co.uk/content/08-x-46mm-spring-10

I've had some BA machine screws off this supplier on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232671034751 ... SwGotWqndR

Martin.

Makes mental note to order direct from them next time rather than via eBay.....
