It’s more than three years since there was any activity on the CHEAG thread so visitors to the site may be forgiven for thinking that the group is defunct. Not at all! We still meet regularly on the second Thursday of the month at the Coach and Horses PH in Newport, Essex, where we have a small room reserved for us and, nearly always, at least one of us will bring along some modelling project for the edification of all.
This then, is a note concerning our last meeting, on 10th October 2019, which we intend will be the first of a regular series.
Paul bought along his latest loco – there seems to be a new one almost every month, where does he find the time? It is an NER 0-6-2T and the quality of the build is hopefully evident in the two photos below. CSB suspension, replacement gearbox with Escap motor - and very dubious foundations for the rear truck: work is on hold while Paul decides how to proceed here.
Phil models Irish narrow gauge, 4mm scale on 12mm gauge track and bought along the loco he has been building for a little while now. No cute little four-wheeler this, but a hulking brute of a 2-4-2T with a wheelbase longer than many standard gauge, main line locos. It has a replacement chassis designed and etched by our good friend Brian Page, which features proper radial trucks with sideways spring control, CSB suspension to all wheels and detailed brake gear. And the frames are about 10mm wide overall! Again, the quality of the workmanship should be evident from the photos.
The next meeting is on 14th November 2019, from about 8pm at the Coach and Horses PH, Cambridge Road, Newport, CB11 3TR. Everyone with an interest in finescale railway modelling is welcome, you don’t have to be a P4 modeller.
