NiSI Rod

I have a requirement for NiSI rod of 1.2 mm diameter or 1.25 mm diameter to act as the rods which fit into steam cylinders.
It seems that the usual suppliers no longer sell this and I am reluctant to try to turn these (shortish) lengths on a lathe since accuracy is paramount.

Can anybody point me to a supplier - I used to get this from Eileen's but they no longer feature in the lists.

Could use brass - tinned?

I certainly could use tinned brass and it may come to that and live with the discolouration over time - but for the moment if I can source some NiSI at 1.0 mm or 1.2 mm that I think would be a better solution.

Or I might be brave and try skimming down some 5 mm rod (or even some 9 mm rod might be better) - should be a test of my lathe skills which are rather basic at the moment! :|

Would you be OK with SS?

if so consider Hypodermic needles. See RS 505-7786

Hobby Holidays are listing 1.2mm N/S:

Phil usually gives very prompt service.

Otherwise Metalsmith (Leeds) are listing it as well:

Good Luck!

Stainless steel might be a problem because one end has to be soldered.

Thanks for the pointer. So far I have avoided studd sold as wire because getting it straight has always given me pause...
But HobbyHolidays have supplied me before with bits that no longer appear elsewhere such as very small 'L' section.
So I will phone them and see how I get on.

Edit. Order placed!

The good news - I have found after some experimentation that I can actually turn a 2 cm long 1.2 mm rod which polishes up nicely.
The bad news is that it is incredibly frustrating and a minimum 5mm rod is needed to provide a sufficient base - plus a very sharp tool.
