Winter scenes - snow vision

Postby BrockleyAndrew » Mon Nov 30, 2020 9:43 pm

Just watching a Scandi-noir TV and struck how snow covering simplifies depiction. It was a longshot of a snow-cleared road. Almost perfect track only layout style view!

See John Dornom's snow diorama in MRJ 182 (2008, p83) in which he displays a GWR autocoach (7mm) at a wayside stop with a couple of figures.

I was just thinking of that when I read the first post. So simple but it looks amazing.

I remember Bob Barlow did a Christmas cover for an early MRJ with the project H class on a piece of track. It was shown in a much later issue as an overall view from way off. It was so simple.

Given my baseboards are white Contiboard, maybe I could save myself a huge amount of work by representing one of the very bad winters in the 50s, just track and snow!

I remember that winter! Still managed to get out on me bike though - although I was also off it quite often!

Wasn't there an exhibition layout set in the snow? Can't remember the name although 'Hudson Road' comes to mind - or was that the 'black and white' one?

There was Blackston Junction which was at Scaleforum back in 2011. More frost than snow.

Aye Hudson Road.

Though OO it is visually rather effective, as well as having a poignancy due to vignettes given its setting during WW1.

That's it. I think we had it at Wakefield some years ago. My memory appears to be not as bad as I thought it was............ :o

Cheers Paul - that is even better than the Swiss one you shared a wee while back! And the rail scenery is pretty special too :D

All the best

I think that I mentioned before that this is my background music through the headphones on a working day. This sort of thing, bit of Carl Cox, some Boris Brejcha. Google for "Cercle" as well it's a French outfit that arranges some DJ sessions from spectacular places. The one from Dubrovnik got me hooked...

All very distracting (visually) during the working day, so they are normally "backgrounded" ;-)

Very wise. I still had some more of the Bergen run to finish this morning, and tried arranging my work windows to allow it to play alongside, but yes, it was too distracting! But very good soundtrack, for those of us who like this sort of thing ;)
