As I don't model the steam era I don't get to use brass etch kits in my railway modelling very often (apart from Penbit's superb sprung bogies) but the warship modelling gives plenty opportunity to get knee deep in etched brass.

Here is one of two catapults from a 1/200 scale USS Iowa Battleship that I'm building, 4" long with over 60 photo etch parts:

She's 53.25" long and, when finished (which at current rate should be about this time next year) she'll have about 5,000 parts.

Here's the whole thing, previously mentioned catapult on the stern and a P4'd Bachmann 16T wagon for scale:

After that, I then have HMS Hood and USS Hornet in the same scale to build.

And all while building the layout as well although I have to admit that, for now, I've almost completely lost interest in model railways...

You want big ships? I give you Herbie-san's HIJMS Yamato in 1:72 scale, late war configuration with 6" wing turrets replaced by enlarged AA suite.

Herbie is ex-RAN engineering, spins a good yarn, and a good bloke.

As a member of that forum, I remember that build. I believe that there are also some 1/72 scale Nimitz class aircraft carriers out there as well.
