News from Bristol; the GOYA project
Something that has been forming in our minds for a while the GOYA project (Get Off Your A**e) is finally at the point where we may be able to release it onto an unsuspecting society.
Inspired by a rather small layout at S4N, we have come up with the idea of each of us (that are taking part) building a layout within a small footprint - about 4' x 18".
The key to any layout is the baseboard, so our trusty Richard Lane has drawn the baseboard in CAD, ready for a kit of parts to be produced. Beyond that, anything goes - though the basic rule is it must be in P4 and have two points.

In a minor dyslexic moment, I read this as the Bristol Yoga project. The images I had of you all don't bear describing...

A very interesting, and commendable idea. However, does "Get Off Your A**e" mean we have to start modelling standing up? I don't think my knees are up to that.

Re: News from Bristol; the GOYA project
We have had our first quote for the baseboard kit.
We have also been told that if we order more, the price could come down. Anyone out on the forum, stuck for a small project through lack of carpentry skills would like to join in the fun? You don't have to be in Bristol, and it will fit in with the SGW project of Ian's.
PM please.

Well two additional people have signed up, but as far as I know, there are still some spaces, we haven't as yet placed the order.
Don't forget that this project neatly dovetails with SGW, although it is slightly smaller - deliberately so. Any layout built on this board will meet the SGW criteria.

Hi Tim,
Sounds very interesting - and very tempting. Any ballpark figure on the cost of the kit? PM me if you prefer.

I was promised a drawing, before I went off on a mini holiday in Yorkshire, they still have not arrived!

Re: News from Bristol; the GOYA project
This project has not died. There have been a few hold ups due to staff being on holiday etc.
Progress has been made. Two sets of test boards have been purchased. There are a couple of mods to be made to the drawing for such things as slots for the wiring.
One set was assembled last night. The main board parts were an excellent fit, including the lighting beam. I heard Richard muttering something about an error in the smaller fiddle yard board.
Hopefully Richard will post a picture soon.

No glue, pins, nails or screws used just friction and a pair of arms.

A bit more than a huff and a puff as the tongues required some carefully applied force to fit into the slots.

Yes there will, although more by accident than design. The DEMU stand will include one board from a Scale7 layout being built by Tom Harwin showing off a combination of Tim Horn's laser cut boards and foamboard for the baseboard. The track is 3D designed and printed sleepers to Scale7 with a mixture of sleeper types. Even though it is not to 4mm scale it sounds like a very interesting project.
Tim himself will be at the show but will be busy helping to operate Calcutta Sidings.

Re: News from Bristol; the GOYA project
Apologies for going off at a tangent but one thing that Tim might like to consider (if he is following this topic) is a laser cut stock box kit, of the type that looks a bit like a display cabinet with a series shelves and a plain ply cover..

Yes the stock box is a great idea. I'd be interested.

Yes, there may be an example of the board at Aylesbury, if Terry has the room. Prices not yet confirmed.
Note that unlike other boards, our one is made from plywood, not MDF.

Re: News from Bristol; the GOYA project
Hello,
I will certainly be looking at stock boxes in the future, I'm stuck on bespoke baseboards at the moment and for several more weeks. We will be getting a 8' by 5' laser cutter in the the next few weeks to help speed up the manufacturing of baseboard kits and to give the curved boards some better scope.
MDF vs Ply, I've found it to be 50/50 with peoples requests at the moment, I like working with both!
Cheers
Tim

As far as stock boxes go there are examples out there. These ones are done by a Canadian company (no connection) http://www.handlaidtrack.com/HO-Scale-F ... s/2381.htm and may provide some ideas.
