Straight point levers for yard operation

Postby hughesp87 » Sat Feb 20, 2021 3:23 pm

Looking at photos of the point levers used at my prototype location of Friden on the Cromford & High Peak, they appear to be of the straight variety that lie horizontally at ground level when not being used. I've tried to find some prototype information and drawings of these, but so far without success. Can anybody help please?

Photo below of an example alongside this Palbrick, for reference.

Hi Geraint,
Nothing specific but street tramways would need something similar to drop back into a recess in the roadway so that may be a another area to look at.

There is some information in that T W Ward book that was posted on here a few weeks back (page 18).

My Grant Lyon book just has a photo.

Tim / Bryan,

Thanks for your replies. I'll follow both these up.

Although this dimensioned drawing shows a shaped point lever rather than a straight one, it should be possible to extrapolate the dimensions of a straight lever from it - I would expect the maximum height above ground level of the lever when precisely upright to be the same in both cases. That isn't a dimension I noted but it only needs a little bit of elementary trigonometry to work it out.
