Is this an undercut or straighcut switch?

Postby Julian Roberts » Mon Feb 15, 2021 5:31 pm

Here are some pictures I took at Dalmellington, a colliery museum, at the station. I'm wondering what sort of switch it is, or maybe it doesn't fit into either category. I have thought it's undercut, but now I'm not so sure...

Hi Julian.

I think it is an undercut switch using 109lb rail. The clue is in the foot of the switch rail being cut away to clear foot of the stock rail, which was only done with the 109 lb designs.

Regards
Tony.
