Dapol turntable

Postby Dgp1957 » Fri Jan 08, 2016 4:47 pm

Hi folks I have an old Dapol turntable and was thinking of using it as the end of a run around loop on my "planned" layout.
Has anyone used this kit on their layouts? If so does it allow S4 track to fit?

I have one for my fiddle yard and fitting P4 track was not a problem. I have never found any prototype to match it so would be a bit wary of using it in a scenic area.

When it was available from Airfix in a 'Type 2' box the blurb claimed it was based on a Cowans, Sheldon & Co table 'in operation at many of the motive power depots throughout British Railways'. But as an over-girder type I believe it would have been hard to find anywhere outside GWR territory. Other kits in the series have no particular prototype, but seem to have been amalgams of several locations to give a 'typical' item that could fit whatever region the purchaser wanted.

And I have not seen any picture or diagram of a GW overgirder table that looked like the Airfix one either!
