Cranked Stretcher Bars

Postby James Moorhouse » Mon Sep 14, 2015 8:35 pm

Does anyone know of any examples of these cranked round section stretcher bars still in existence, either on preserved railways in the UK or perhaps even on Network Rail? Examples have been identified already at Beamish, the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre (Quainton Road), the Dean Forest Railway and the West Somerset Railway.

I believe Didcot has one or two examples around the back by the turntable.

The last time I looked (2014), there were a few in Radstock GW under the grass/trees. They may have been destroyed by now.
Picture dates from 1978.

This is the state on my last visit, same place. It's under the trees!

Goonbarrow 18 points still has tubular stretcher bars, but these points are due to be recovered at the end of the year....

Only the back stretcher it seems, the drive is a flexible stretcher, ie strip on edge.
