A change of year means OS maps from 1971 are now out of copyright and National Library of Scotland (NLS) have just announced that another 1,481 detailed 50"/mile and 25"/mile maps covering areas in Scotland are now on their web site.
There's more:
Ordnance Survey 1:500 Town Plans of England and Wales (1840s-1890s)
"We have added 10,519 sheets online showing Victorian town plans of England and Wales (1840s-1890s). Over 380 towns (all those with more than 4,000 people) were mapped at a scale of 1:500 - the most detailed maps that Ordnance Survey ever surveyed of these towns."
That's a bit early for most modellers, but it's an amazing resource. All georeferenced for cross-fading to modern maps/aerial.
Here is the north end of Worcester Shrub Hill (GWR):

And this is a bit of the Midland Railway at Cheltenham Lansdown:

These maps can be captured and scaled in Templot as screenshot maps, I will add the tiled maps option soon.
To see the level of detail on some of these maps, see Leeds Town Hall:

cheers,
Martin.

Re: New detailed town plans on NLS
Many thanks.
How about a station served by three companies - nice challenge for track building and wiring!
The station was at the bottom left of the image, top left on the full map:
https://maps.nls.uk/view/231276600#zoom=4&lat=5888&lon=8396&layers=BT
The goods depot, top left of the full map, was the terminus for passenger services of 3 companies until a year before this map was surveyed. Just for added "fun", it was on what modellers would refer to as a return loop.
There'll be a related, but very different, post in a different forum soon.
