Fylde Area Group (June 2016)

Postby mike_t_norris » Tue Jun 28, 2016 12:31 pm

This month our meeting was at the home of one of our members, to see progress on his embryonic layout of Lowton St. Marys (the junction on the Great Central line to St Helens and Wigan Central).
The night was well attended and included members of the Manchester EM Gauge group, 11 members and visitors were present with apologies from three.
We were welcomed and led to the large shed where Tony has managed to get the baseboards constructed and has started to lay track and landscape some of the areas. Considering that Tony lost the use of his right arm following a stroke and had to scale back his original plans this is still an ambitious project, but it is progressing well. It is good to see that after his set back so much has been accomplished and Tony’s keenness is undiminished.
Below we can see the long straight through the station with the goods yard sketched out on the right, the nice snaking curve at the south end, followed by a photograph of Tony explaining the layout with the junction to St Helens and Wigan in the foreground.
We were then treated to tea and cake some of us taking advantage of the long summer evening by sitting outside, most members returned for a second instalment in the shed before leaving.
Thanks go to Tony and Beth for a most enjoyable evening.
The next meeting is on Thursday 21st July, at 7:30pm for 8:00pm, and is a ‘Run and Natter’, details available from myself or via the ‘Blue Sheet’.
