Just a note re the PenBits bogies: all being well I will be travelling down in the capable hands of fGW :? and therefore able to carry only a limited amount of stock.

Please drop me a PM or email if there's anything particular you would like me to bring. (NB New BRCW kits just out.)

Cheers

Or should that be 4983 Albert Hall? ;)

http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t15/t0307b.htm gives Newport arr. 1531 dep. 1555 (Platform 1) for the return journey, which should round off the day nicely, with my return Cardiff-Taunton service departing at 1615.

Maybe we should have a Great Gathering of Halls at Newport like the one they had for A4s at York

I am hoping to get over there on Saturday.

(Must see if I can get a bank loan to cover the bridge toll.)

Thinks: Should I take any stock with me fitted with EM wheels?

Why not? There are enough 'heretics' in Wales already...one more won't matter. :D

Just wish I was going to be there, but as this is my son's stag weekend, there may be one or two better attractions else where...

There isn't a race track in Newport...and our hotel is opposite the station. Off in a while to the club, to make preparations for all those coming tomorrow. I'm sure if you come, you'll have a great time, certainly last year was great fun.

If you want to know who to thank for organizing this, then Mr Rod Hall and Mr Dave Hagger will be the targets, ably assisted by the other members.

I have to echo Tim's comment. It was a great day and the traders were extremely helpful in answering questions about their products. Again, many thanks to all involved in organising the day :)

Indeed, a thoroughly enjoyable day out - many thanks to Newport MRS and NAGNAG for making us so welcome. Let's see if I can post a selection of piccies...

Rood Ashton Hall was '6 up' arriving at Newport, so, upon hearing the unmistakeable 'pftt... pftt...' of the vacuum pump I had to hurry out of the subway to catch a glimpse as she ran in. Within the station the returning excursion was kept well clear of onlookers' view, so I saw little more of her. The Hall did, however, continue to make her presence felt after departing Newport, as my returning train was delayed by 'a lineside fire at Llanwern'. Now, I wonder what the cause of that might have been...

Excellent day out. Well worth the resulting back ache from travelling on a couple of First Great Western rattlers. Sincere thanks to all who organised and hosted the event. :D

I couldn't hang around long enough to see the Hall but caught a glimpse of a proper loco (Tangmere) when leaving Temple Meads.

Second that, Danny. Grand day out. Very fine curry to finish.

Wish I could remember what I was trying to say in that picture.

For the record, fGW from Didcot and back were exemplary today.

An excellent day out, found out about some new to me baseboard joining components...just timely for Dartmouth under construction.
Delighted by layouts in a boxfile and I saw best ever example of static flock grass on the little hill in the back corner of Cwm Du...see John Palmer's piccy above.
Bonus was first day of real Spring warmth and a lunchtime stroll for a mile or two up the canals and bottom 4 of 14 locks.
Lack of ale was only down side!

Very nice, mind you that signal waves in the breeze a bit, better get some stay wires on before you let an express past.

This is the first time since yesterday that I have managed to get in front of the computer.

I would just like to add my appreciation to the complimentary remarks that have been made by others. We were all given a very warm welcome by NAGNAG members.

I went home with some intriguing new ideas and fired up with renewed enthusiasm, to try these out.

Diolch yn fawr.

Looks like a very good day. congratulations to all involved. Would someone like to posts the names of the builders of Cwm Du, the layouts in the box files, and of the point rodding.

Cwm Du is Mike Edmunds' baby.

Of the A4 in P4:

    Dave Haggar built Terminus
Steffan Lewis built Pont Llados, a somewhat backward place
    Rob Foot built Br1An's Brewery

For a bit of background on the P4 in A4 lark look here http://www.newportmrs.co.uk/clubgoingson.htm and see the entry under 9 January

But I can't help with identifying that lovely point rodding. Anybody want to put their hand up?

And thanks to all those who came and made it a very worthwhile day for the club/Area group.

To remind people what the P4 in A4 is - it is a P4 challenge to put a micro-layout into a foolscap box.

The rules are quite simple:

1. The layout has to be transported to the club in a foolscap folder box with the lid closed and meet the outside dimensions of 75H x 375W x 245D mm.
2. P4 standards apply.
3. Only stock, control panel and loco controllers can arrive in a separate box. Lighting, scenery, backscene all have to arrive in the closed layout box.

Here are the entries seen at the Open Day
