A major step forward...

Postby Mike Garwood » Thu Jan 30, 2014 3:22 pm

A few months have gone by and we've now received baseboards for Little Mill Junction. First a few thank you's. To Rod Hall and Dave Hagger for getting the measurements right for the build to commence. To Rob Foot for picking up and lugging the boards about! And finally out most gratefull thanks to Chris Yates for taking on the job of building the boards...and doing an absolutely brilliant job.

So once they were up it was time to see what a train looked like on them. To aid with this we had created some paper mock ups of fifty wagons and ten coaches...

Having done that, we placed Rodney's Hall and M set and stood back to appreciate the view.

As you can see, the train looks a little bit lost on just three boards!
Since then, we have had added another two boards and I believe Dave has picked more up since, so we really are getting some speed up on the project.

It will take a bit longer to make the real trains than the mock trains!

Looks good though :thumb

There's something about fresh new boards isn't there!
Btw, how big are they? They look somewhere around 5-6ft?

Hi Tim

Definitely...though in the interim 5 years I have finished 30 odd Comet coaches and probably 7 or 8 tender engines. Not including the County or the Brit. But still a long way to go. Rob Foot has just finished a Collet goods conversion and has a Castle chassis sitting on his desk waiting for him to mate it with the Hornby body.

It will take a long time but we are quite firmly on the road...now.

Andrew

You are quite right, most boards are six foot, but there are a few that deviate from this, due to the nature of the curves at either end.

Looking very good Mike.
Make Worcestershire great again.
Build a wall along the Herefordshire border and make them pay for it.
