Horse drawn carts, Goods and loads more

Postby johnWM » Thu Apr 23, 2009 8:21 pm

If you haven't come across Mike Smith's labour of love website about goods operation on UK railways before you might be interested in this.
I stumbled across it by accident. :D
There is so much of interest, I found it hard to decide where to put this post. In the end I decided to use the above title simply because I found the illustrations on this page particularly interesting.
but then again almost any sub page off appendix 1 has something of interest.
...... and theres loads more on this very extesive website.
This is probably old news to many people, but no one told me about it before
Enjoy. I did. :)

I imagine you won't get a lot of response over posting this link. However, whilst I already had it in my bookmarks folder, your post did remind me to go and revisit the site, which was a very useful reminder to not forget what we take for granted. Thank you.

That's an interesting link. I have been looking for a picture of a Road Gang of men using sledgehammers and and a metal pin to break up a road surface. I was told about this years ago: they stood in a circle and hammered the pin into the ground to break it up. Anyone have such a picture which them might be prepared to share?
