BR standard 4 2-6-0 76xxx chassis parts origin?

Postby PeteT » Tue Jan 31, 2023 1:10 pm

Hello,

I have recently acquired these etches (included in an eBay lot, the seller included them in the photo listing for a Comet Briannia chassis, but had no words in the description to cover them).

There are obviously a few bits missing, but does anyone recognise them or know the source? One etch has P A Hill written on it.

I'm aware of offerings by Comet, Branchlines, DJH & Kemilway. I can rule out the 1st two, but is it one of the latter 2 options, or something else?

Maybe the Peter Hill who writes up EM conversions for Alan Gibson Workshop.

Paul Hill - did the etch design for later Crownline stuff, then DMR.

Having built a few of the Kemilway ones, it does look awfully like one of those.

Pete

I'd have to agree with Tim, none of those etches are from Comet. Having built 3 Comet Brits in the last 25 years (and still got one more to do). Dear Geoff Brewin revised the Brit etches (plus many more), the latest version are etched in Nickel silver.

Hope you're keeping well

Mike

Actually I think the middle one is a Comet one - has the same style of writing on it.

The others?

Thanks for the thoughts - I hadn't really considered that they could well be from different sources!

I'm very well thanks Mike, hopefully see you at Mark's next week?

Pete,

They are all from the same source - it's a Crownline chassis, K87, (and detailing kit) for the Airfix/Dapol plastic kit, but mine is destined for a DJH 77xxx instead - the least said about that the better. I hope you got more parts than in your photo because, if you didn't, there's a lot missing.

If a copy of the instructions would be useful let me know.

Two sets of coupling-rods?

(edited for correct term!)

This is all that was included, but that in itself isn't a problem - I do have plans for a 76xxx but these were free with the Britannia chassis, so its more a case of knowing what I have before I put it in a dark cupboard to mature for some time! Anything of use within it will be a bonus.

Instructions would be useful please John, especially with the valvegear - or more the slidebars and how it all was intended to work with the (missing) cylinders.

And he's still in operation for PDK Models (a.k.a son of Crownline). Very no-frills artwork aimed at getting things running rather than refinement.
That would be an ecumenical matter.
