EBMA Timber Track Bases

Postby Andy G » Tue Sep 12, 2017 9:36 pm

In building his Great Jackson Street layout Ralph drew some turnout timbers with the rivet holes pre-made. The primary purpose was not having to try and punch the hole in the right place and inevitably get some of them wrong and all the hassle that leads to. A side benefit of the design is that the surrounding wood acts as a jig during the construction of the turnout.

The initial B6 was further developed so that it could be made available to others in time for Railwells. This has now just been joined by B7 and B8 versions. If you're interested in them they are available from myself at EBMA Hobby & Craft or from Jeremy in the Stores or at Scaleforum.

Those look pretty good and good value. I could see some with 3rd rail holes proving useful.

Thanks. Adding extra holes wouldn't be an issue, but, unfortunately I've got absolutely no idea about 3rd rail - any pointers on where I could look up the necessary info?

The Manchester Model Railway club has details iirc, I think there is information on the society website somewhere too, but can't think off top of my head.

There is a search facility in Quick links [top left] which will find any references on the Forum.

Thanks Keith, I couldn't remember the site I was thinking of when I responded last night, that was it.

Thanks Keith, glad it was CLAG and not MMRS - that would have been embarrassing :o

The article I was thinking of there, is this one, it has a lot of trackwork information available in it, written by Colin Craig.

They've actually been available for a while but versions of the B6-8 turnout to match 9' sleepered trackwork are now available either from the Stores or through the EBMA Hobby & Craft website - http://www.ebmahobby.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=65_66

Also, newly available is a crossing vee jig developed as part of the discussion around Tony Wilkins turnout construction thread.

It's been a while but we have now added P4 A5 trackbases to the range. We also added EM B6 and B7 last autumn.

They seem a good idea but the grain looks as if it goes the wrong way - surely not?

Sleepers are 0.8mm thick and cut from the same stock as the Society sleepers. We have 1.5mm ply in stock so could cut from that if wished.

Well spotted, I think the photo must be a test cut. We quickly realised the issue during development and I've just checked that all of the stock are cut the other way, i.e. grain runs along the timber.

An update on the track bases. During the summer we added a P4 A5 base to fit with 8'6" sleepered track and today we've added the same but for 9' sleepered track.
These can be found here - https://www.ebmahobby.co.uk/index.php?r ... duct_id=95
They will also be available from Jeremy at the Stores shortly.
