I'd like to thank Rod Cameron for sharing an updated downloadable index for MRJ:

The one we've had there has not been updated for a while, but Rod has brought the index up to issue 251, in the same style as was there previously. He's hopeful he can provide regular updates.

This would be very useful to me, but unfortunately the link to the spreadsheet doesn't seem to be working for me in Firefox. Is the path "/downloads/indexes/mrjindex.xls" correct?

Doesn't work on my iPad either, but that may be an iPad thing.

Doesn't work for me in either Firefox or Safari (but thanks for prompting a reminder of the idiocies of Safari, the only piece of Apple software that's utterly useless - I'm much happier with Firefox's occasional foibles again now).

I'm using Edge on Windows 10 on a PC, and the Excel link doesn't exist according to my machine. It shows in blue, but hovering over it does not show any path in the LHS bottom corner [all the other links do, so its specific to that link].

The Excel file link doesn't want to work in W10.

The others on the resources page do, except that the Excel file for the S4News index downloads but then has a Microsoft Office Security Warning when I try to open the Excel file.

Edited: Was looking at the wrong one - not working here either!

I too am using Chrome as my browser with W10, but still can't get it to work.

Hmm. I also see the problem as reported (evidently I didn't quite test my upload fully!). I'll take a look and let you know when I've hopefully fixed it. It certainly should work!

Can folks try again now (be sure to reload the page)? I spotted two errors (!): a misplaced quote such that browsers probably just got confused, and listing it as .xls, not the correct xlsx.

Working fine for me with Windows 10/Chrome.

Just to be clear, I didn't design and populate the whole index, it was started by another party (forget his name offhand) and made freely available online. For some reason his updates stopped, all I did was to carry on in the same vein for my own purposes.

I don't know how the Excel version originated, but the online search I've previously used was started by Matt Ots, partly as a programming exercise, and transferred in 2012 to Chris Baker, who maintained it with the help of many others (taken from its 'About' page). It is current to issue #249 and was last amended on 9 Oct 2016, so anyone who finds it a more convenient source to access (no pun intended!) won't be missing too much.

Thanks David, I knew about that one, which is a searchable relational database rather than my flat-file version. Both formats have their pros and cons, and the indexes for Scalefour News are also available in both versions.
