What's pink and round and makes railway modellers rather excited ???

Apparently it's a Pinnacle soldering mat, as described here http://beerandbuckjumpers.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/a-useful-new-gadget.html

I was amazed at the stir it created, with various people borrowing it, examining it and even taking pictures of it to order one for themselves.

It's available on the Pinnacle website at http://www.model-supplies.org.uk/epages/es749712.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es749712/Products/T901. They are so cheap (less than the price of a pint at Missenden!) that you'd be daft not to...

Very useful Paul. I have a similar thing bought from Wizard Models but not as cheap as these!

Also their fret cutting mat looks cheap and very useful. http://www.model-supplies.org.uk/epages ... ducts/T902

I bought a Pinnacle map recently and it's very good.

Some care may be needed with the ordering part of their web-site: it was all kinds of broken when I tried it last month, needing an email exchange to sort out, and then the mat was sent to the billing address, not the shipping address. Possibly worth ordering by 'phone.

I've just tried, and failed to complete payment via their website, for some of these products. The alternative, phone or email, will not succeed either, until next week, as their answering machine message relays the news that they are closed for re-organisation until then.

...likewise.

I got 'cut off'' when trying to pay by PayPal and received a confirmation e-mail to which I sent a reply requesting the wish to pay.

I await with interest.

It's actually trade waste from high temperature gasket manufacture!

Thanks Gordon. Three new mats (at that price I can buy in bulk) ordered for when I need them.

By coincidence I have a friend who is a highly skilled engineer on big marine diesel engines. I'll ask him whether it's the sort of the thing that he recognises. It's certainly the right size for the piston bore of some of the smallest engines that he works on...

Likewise ordered from here. I also noted in the seller's other items, bulk packs of 100, coming out at £1 per pad. A re-selling opportunity for the Stores perhaps?

Just looked at the firms listings on ebay. They also sell mats in either 3 or 5mm thickness and as A4 sheet or 400mm squares, perhaps a little better than the circle waste pressings :?:
