There's a steam railmotor in there I think...

She/He also lists a Lima GWR railcar No 16, current bid £16.

Most of the rolling stock is too modern for my period but I might have put in a bid if the wagons had been a separate lot but even then I would want only the 6 wheel siphon and what looks like an outside framed van (top left 3rd down, the photo definition is too low to be able to get a good look). Lots of the wagons look to be damaged so would not want to spend much on them.

Bid is already up to £51 with 8 days to go so expect they will end up being sold for a silly amount of money.

But 6 locos for (currently) £23 must look like a good deal for any advocates of the Great Way Round who can add the odd missing buffer or rebend a few wiper pickups http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201033922629

Also at least one set of Ultrascale wheels, maybe more.

Most of the locos have Portescaps. Regrettably, these will probably be bought, stripped for the motors, then sold "without motor".

Apparently some people pay silly money for Portescaps (why?) and the motors are worth more that way!

Strangely, I quite like the 'Flying Banana' (shown here) - might even be tempted to bid if it wasn't UK-only postage. Can anyone explain what the seller means by "it wouldn't run because the unpowered bogie (!) was the wrong way round"?

The Lima railcar uses American style pickup.... If one end is the wrong way round it won't work.

Thanks for solving the mystery, Tim (well, it was to me - but then the only Lima items I own have all-plastic wheels, run on 32mm track, and carry their own power supply on-board).

I find the sale quite sad. Someone's years of love and work dumped into a box, and dumped onto ebay. However, I suppose it's the enjoyment gained from building them that's important, not their monetary worth.

That tends to be the difference between P4 (or 2FS, or S7...) modellers and those that merely open boxes...

However this sort of disposal is an event that is regrettably becoming more frequent, and the Society Committee is very aware of it. You may have noticed that in each of the last two years the Society has benefited from donations from Society members, which have been dealt with in as equitable way as possible.

We are continuing to review what we do in these cases, to ensure that as far as possible items that have a continuing value to finescale modellers do not simply end up in a skip.

It is also a reminder to all of us to (a) make a will, and (b) put in it what we want done with our stock, tools, and anything else that we would like to see go to a good home.

Unfortunately there will be a time when the grim reaper comes to us all, and on occasions it is not always those who have reached their "four score years and ten."

Locos went for £210 after a bit of a flurry in the last few hours.
