London Road RSU on Ebay

Postby Paul Willis » Mon Jun 10, 2013 4:50 pm

Item number: 140994355136

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140994355136

Currently standing at £29.99, but with postage at a hefty £22. However that is still a real bargain compared to a new one.

No link to the seller, etc, just spotted it on there and wondered if a Society member would be interested.

Cheers

The last one on fleabay went for £142 plus postage. Still a saving, but not such a big one.

Not £29.99 any more, but going to collect it is not a problem, and the car would benefit from a good long run....
That would be an ecumenical matter.

Go on Horsetan it will make th etched kit construction so much easier... The hoard of north London will be reduced.... Global warming might increase due to all the use of the RSU though. :D

It may interfere with the DCC experiments, which are already causing lights to dim in North London

I note that this is listed under Toys and Games, rather than Trains/Model Railways, so may be missed by some potential buyers. It might be a bargain.

Perhaps I should let the seller know it should be listed in both categories so he gets a good price ;)

Only four days to go and now up to £75.00

Who are we to interfere with this process? Surely that's why eBay is such fun.
One day a bargain, the next someone pays well over the odds.
Searching is not an exact science, either - some people don't know what they're selling, some can't spell, units of measurement are described differently. I never bother searching by category, as in this case, it is obviously too limiting.
To snipe or not to snipe? That is another question.
Do I declare my interest now, or fight it out? I don't have so far to drive, either!

My view is that there's quite a bit of interfering going on.....which is why I've pulled out.

Clearly the Catholic approach to bidding on eBay ;-)

Ivan,

t'was an empty threat and I have done nothing about it.

I track ebay results for LRM items and in the last two years the four RSU that have been auctioned have achieved between £117 and £190 including postage.

At £75 with four days to go, I expect this one will get to over £100 plus postage.

Surely the sensible rule about buying at auction applies. Set the price that you are willing to pay and bid up to that. What anyone else does is out of your hands anyway.

Incidentally, on average LRM kits sell on ebay for 92% of the current new price. This has fallen over the last two years from an average of 96%, possibly a sign of the economic times. Ironically, about 10% sell for more than the price of a new kit direct from LRM.

With three soldering irons here to choose from, I didn't really need it anyway.....

Well, somebody wanted it real bad!!!
£160.95 it went for! (+ £22.00 delivery)
At that price, I'd rather have a new one.

I love my RSU. Even more now, since looking up the price. Now about double from 4 years ago - $470 for the "baby" American Beauty.
Ouch!

I wouldn't be without my LRM RSU, but I wouldn't risk spending that amount via ebay. What do you do if there are problems/it's been fiddled with? Unless the saving is huge it's not worth the risk.
Make Worcestershire great again.
Build a wall along the Herefordshire border and make them pay for it.

For less than that price, I did have a new one!

$169. Not bad.

But only 63 watts and two voltage settings.

And you would need to step down to 110 volts.....

Which means a new LRM one is still the best bet for UK modelers!
