P W Pilcher was an amateur photographer who produced many interesting photographs, mostly during the pre-grouping era. Brought up in Lincolnshire, educated at Bath and Cambridge, Percy Pilcher was a teacher at Shrewsbury School until his retirement in 1935. The photos he took featured mainly GNR and GWR as well as LNWR subjects, concentrating on locomotives.
THe LNWR Society produced one of their card bound A4 Portfolios entitled The Railway Photographs of P.W. Pilcher containing a wide selection of informatively captioned photographs, of LNWR, GWR, GNR and other companies' locomotives and trains taken between the 1880s and the 1930s, many in the Shrewsbury area. The quality of his work, extremely well reproduced in this publication, was of the highest standard. Details of the Portfolio, including a review by BackTrack magazine can be found at http://www.lnwrs.org.uk/Sales/books.php
Usually priced at £9.95, this 96 page LNWR Society Portfolio is available for a limited period to all railway historians, enthusiast and modellers at £7.75, including UK postage. Orders, with a cheque or postal order be made payable to the LNWR Society, should be sent to;
