16ba nuts in stock at Hobby Holidays
If anyone needs any, Phil at Hobby Holidays now has16ba nuts in stock.
Re: 16ba nuts in stock at Hobby Holidays
I have just received some and they are too big. Although tapped 16BA they are 0.52mm bigger than the existing 16BA nuts I have. Phil's are 1.97mm across the flats and my 16BA, 1.45mm. At 1.97mm across, they come between 12BA and 14BA.
It does say on the website they are 2mm across the flats and this muggins did not see it! 16BA nuts being like hens' teeth, I plunged straight in.

Re: 16ba nuts
I bought some 16BA nuts from Amberly Components during the recent Gauge O Guild Kettering Show. I measured them this evening and they are 1.43mm across flats. I've also have been after these for some time so really surprised to see them.
A link to their mail order site for the item:

I hope this helps,

Thanks Steve,
Just placed an order, found round headed 16BA screws as well - useful for valve gear odds.

It seems that the problem of size is due to the raw material size being used to manufacture the nuts:
1/16" Hex Rod produces nuts that are 1.5mm across
2mm Hex Rod produces nuts that are (surprise surprise) 2mm across.
I phoned Squires today to see what size theirs are - they are out of stock and the owner is having great difficult finding a supplier that can manufacture them at a sensible price. I also discovered that their catalogue on the website is more than a bit out of date when it comes to prices....
I'll be placing an order with Amberley tomorrow.

Re: 16ba nuts in stock at Hobby Holidays
I received my order this morning and the nuts are very small, 1.5mm. I ordered two packets and just tipped them into my little drawer for such things and then noticed that many of them were much smaller, about 1.37mm. From the half dozen I had already, it may be that the packets were different o/s dimensions, but no matter, they are even more useful being a bit smaller. I really should have looked more closely at the packets!
Prompt service and a reasonable price. Thanks for the pointer, Steve.

Material availability is a poor excuse as NC lathes will turn a hexagon (or square or....). It just takes longe than parting off nuts.
16BA nut should be 1.75 times thread diameter which gives 1.38 A/F. You're pretty close.
