3ft Radius P4 curves

Clearly long wheel base locos with little axle sideways movement will determine the minimum radius on most layouts.

But those with less arduous restrictions, using the maximum allowable gauge widening will give the best results. But there is one often overlooked caveat for the minimum radius of turnouts. Depending on the "Standard" in use, the common crossing flange way width may restrict the maximum movement of centre axles more that the gauge widening allows for it. If this is a problem, it might be possible to increase the flange way width up to the maximum possible for the wheel widths in use.
