Etch folds question

Postby Proto87stores » Fri Nov 22, 2019 1:30 am

I noticed in the recent steam railmotor thread, that nickel silver etched sides were successfully bent double using 180 degree folds. Having not tried that personally, I wondered if there is a recommend etch fold slot width for 180 degree folds?

I use metal thickness width for 90 degree folds, but presume that would not be enough for a full 180 degrees?

Use the same width line as 90 deg but it goes on the outside of the bend.

Andy,

I've found that using a fold width equal to the material thickness doesn't always produce a clean 90 degree bend. I've since widened it to 1.2 times material thickness and this works perfectly.

Guys,

Thanks for the answers. I just did a test 180 deg fold on a handy piece of 0.010" stainless and it works just fine. You just helped me make the N7 chassis even easier and faster to assemble. But I will have to do another iteration to incorporate that.

Cheers!

Andy
