Hi Will L.
Recently you helped me with a csb plot for a LNWR A class 0-8-0. of which many thanks.
I beg the use of your brain once more with a plot for a GCR 8A class/ LNER Q4.
The wheel base is 8ft-----5' 8 1/2"-----5' 5 1/2"-----5' 11"-----7' 6"
I'm hopeless at anything mathermatical and no matter how many times I look at the spreed sheet, my brain just yawns.
Thanks in advance for your help, and hope you have a good day at the aviation show with knutsford next week.
Regards.
Alan.

Hi Alan,
I've noticed that you've posted a number of times in the guest book area of the Forum, and you're very welcome to do so; but I can't not ask if you've considered rejoining the Society (I believe that you used to be a member - no 4207 - from 1988 to 1995) so that you can participate more easily, as well as having access to all of the areas of the Forum and website.
You'll find full details here
Hopefully I'll be able to welcome you back, in the not too distant future.

Sorry Alan, but that's because this is the guest area. We already get spam postings here, which we usually manage to delete before too many people see them. If we allowed attachments to postings in this non-member area, there's no knowing what we might get.
Another reason for encouraging Alan Woodard to join us.
All the Best

Hi Alan
Interesting prototype. Just how accurate do you think you want to be? If your prepared to go to 0.1mm you get something like
wheelbase
a1 to a2 22.8 mm (5' 8.4")
a2 to a3 22.4 mm (5' 5.4")
a3 to a4 23.7 mm (5' 11.1")
The minimum length CSB plot, and the easiest to find, is
6.7 -a1- 11.4 - 11.4 - a2 - 11.4 - 10.4 - a3 - 12.4 - 11.3 - a4 - 6.7
Giving an model weight to spring wire size given from the following table which looks a bit stiff
Wire size - Model weight
12 thou - 580 grams
11 thou - 410 grams
10 thou - 280 grams
9 thou - 185 grams
As longer CSB plot which would be a bit softer and which requires no measurement more accurate than 0.5mm from an axle centre lines
9.5 - a1 - 9.3 - 13.5 - a2 - 11.5 - 10.3 - a3 -14,7 - 9 - a4 - 9.5
Wire size - Model weight
12 thou - 500 grams
11 thou - 350 grams
10 thou - 240 grams
9 thou - 160 grams
A variant of this one, if your marking up your own chassis sides and don't want any dimensions any more precise than 0.5mm.
You get a wheel base of
a1 to a2 23 mm (5' 9")
a2 to a3 22.5 mm (5' 6")
a3 to a4 23.5 mm (5' 10.5")
and a CSB plot
9.5 - a1 - 9.5 - 13.5 - a2 - 11.5 - 10.5 - a3 -14.5 - 9 - a4 - 9.5
Wire size to weight very little different than second example above.
Does that help?

Re: To will L, HELP again.
Hi Danny.
Would love to re-join but unfortunatly, I'm my wifes carer and have been for the past 10 years so am unbale to work, plus 4 kids still at home and an endless stream of bills I have next to no money to feed my railway habit. There are other society's I'd love to join but alas not until the sun shines a little better on me.
I did'nt realize it was that long ago that I was a member. Thats made me feel realy old
Anyway, as I said when times are a bit easyer I'll rejoin.
Regards.
Alan woodard.
