The variation in thickness is all down to how 'wet' the glue is at the moment the interlining is applied. I think I re-did a couple of spots on the sample to fill in any bald patches and this can created a nice clumped effect. After painting the texture of the grass was enhanced by going over the surface with a nail brush .
