Scalefour at Warley 2022

Postby Paul Willis » Mon Nov 28, 2022 10:35 pm

A big thank you to all of the Society members and other Warley Show visitors that came along over the whole weekend and said hello at the Society Stand.

Whether it was for a chat or just say a few words, or to ask questions or tell us what modelling you've been doing, we enjoyed each and every one of those conversations.

We had the usual range of things on the stand for people to pick up, prod, admire, or just ask questions about. We spent much time explaining what the difference was between P4 and OO, and how the Society helped anyone that wanted to move their modelling to a more finescale approach.

And we helped more than a few folk out with a carrier bag or two to ensure that their purchases made it safely home!

Finally, if any of the new Society members who joined us over the Warley weekend are reading this, welcome! It was lovely to talk with you, we hope that what you saw inspired you, and that you'll enjoy many years of modelling with us ahead.

All the best,
Danny, Mike, Steve & Paul

Given all of the 'welcome to the forum' emails I've sent today it was a very successful weekend...

Indeed.

I was rather hoping that someone from the Plumpton Green team would be along to talk about it.

Best,
Paul

Barry Luck is a very rare user of this forum so you may have to wait a long time. ;) However as an operator the following may help.

Plumpton Green lever frame.docx

Plumpton Green is based on the station at Plumpton in East Sussex which is a few miles noth of Lewes. The lever frame was the first thing to be built to proove that everything worked and is fully interlocked. Simplified bell codes are used for operation. Whilst based on the real station, there have been some additions to make the operation more interesting. These include the bay siding used for unoading horse boxes - in real life there is a race course nearby, lay by sidings for storage of race specials which in reality were further away and about 1000 feet long - too long for most models, and moving the brickworks at Keymer, six miles away from Plumpton closer.

At Warley the layout genearted a lot of interest from visitors helped by the fact that the lever frame is at the front of the layout so can be easily seen by visitors. A special mention must be made of a fairly recent addition nto the stock - the LBSC Royal Train buit by Barry's son Christopher who is himself a very fine model maker. This has been build from a set of etched brass kits that Barry has had in stock for about 25 years. Serveral of the locos on the layout have been scratch built by Chris using the techniques that Barry has developed which shows that anyone can do the same thing

All the details can be found on Barry's web site which now includes videos of operation. http://www.lbscrmodels.co.uk/index.html
