Thought I'd post some (sorry, just on the mobile phone) piccies of the first show I've been to since MRS 2020 and the pandemic struck.
Chris Gough's Cadhay Sidings (P4) won the best layout in show award, deservedly. There are five operators, all obeying bell codes and proper signalling: FY at each end, main line driver and signalman in the centre behind the layout, sidings operator at the front. A poignant memorial to Chris' Dad and Bruce Murray is written in front.
Gordon and Maggie Gravett were exhibiting Arun Quay. I was particularly interested in the intentionally very lightweight construction - if not flimsy!, which did not adversely affect the running (which was perfect, including AJs) one bit - and superb atmosphere created through the weathering. The backscene is from roller blind material, curved at the ends and suspended from clips. The river is not modelled, it is a trompe d'oeil created by its representation on the backscene being an inch or two behind the back edge of the layout.
Bron Hebog is a large 009 layout of Beddgelert station on the Welsh Highland Railway, and includes the approach from the Aberglaslyn Pass, and the horseshoe curves of the 1 in 40 climb to the summit at Rhyd Ddu.
Oldshaw is an EM layout - This APT movement must have been rather unusual

Re: Model Rail Scotland 2022
Thanks Julian for your comments re Cadhay. Some fine layouts pictured and a couple of others I also liked, particularly John Spence's N Gauge Southern Region layout. All in all a pretty good show to come back to.
I've put some more pics of Cadhay at the show up on the Cadhay ("Finally Made a Start in P4") thread in the Layouts section.
Cheers

Thanks Julian, good to see another bit of normality resume! As well as good opportunities for catching up & shopping, shows are normally a good source of inspiration to crack on with things.

It's probably worth adding that my layout Clackmannan Goods and Paul Spencer's layout Splott were at Glasgow doing our bit to show D&E era P4 modelling to the masses.

Absolutely worth it, David, would love to see some of your other pics on here, too...

A bit of 'topical' fun.... we based it on this shot at Stenson Junction in 1987:

For what it's worth, it was a fairly easy EM conversion. The pinpoint bearings might be a bit sloppy for P4 though.

I do apologize David and Paul and that my report was so unrepresentative! Please show us some more shots. And yes Guy, I thought it looked an example of truth being stranger than fiction! The tilt failure on the second coach in the photo is another modelling challenge! - probably a nausea or balance challenge if anyone was on board here...

However, it appears that you need to sign up for a Hornby subscription to watch it.

Hi Les,
It works for me and I'm definitely NOT a Hornby subscriber. I do get the blue banner at the top of the page saying it's premium content but if I scroll down I get he pics and the video at the bottom.
Hope that helps

Hi Chris,
Like Les, I can't get past the requirement to sign up. Even though it might be a free trial (which will then morph into a fee paid one if you don't spot it in time) I'm not going to take the chance. The still pictures of Cadhay do look nice though!

Very odd!
The link above worked earlier when I tried it but now does not work for me either, however I have just gone back to the google search that found it for me in the first place ("Hornby Model Rail Scotland") and clicked on the link "hornby magazine visits model rail scotland 2022" and got straight through to the page I linked to earlier which still has the photos and video active and viewable!
Alternatively I can also view the video on Youtube at the link below:

Thank you Chris.
Loved your interview and I thought they captured the atmosphere and quality of Cadhay Sidings very well indeed.
Cheered me up as I'm still hurting about St Merryn
